Hi all,

I have been playing, and mostly enjoying MWO for a few months now but sadly my graphics card has died..

My old card was a NVidia 9800 Gt 1gb, and I got a fairly playable 25ish fps. I have now had to plug in a Gt 620 and after the last patch i am getting around 10 fps

My rig is:

Phenom quad 2.4 GHz
4 gb ddr2
Xp 32

I cannot afford a full new pc until late summer... So the question is, would I see a significant fps boost If I picked up a gtx 560 ti or Radeon 7770 on eBay? Or is my rig to old for this game?

I think you should invest in a gtx 570, which is quite faster than a gtx 560ti.

It depends from the resolution you play at, but quite certainly the GT 620 is barely classified as a graphic card ; upgrading it or falling back to the 9800 Gt would greatly improve mwo experience.

And don't even compare a 7770 to a 560 Ti, the latter is fairly much more powerful (and a power hog); I don't know your budget but an HD 7850 would do it better than both.

I would definitely look into improving the ram. A great card isn't worth much without the ram to back it up. I went to Radeon 6870s for Battlefield 3. Cards were supposed to be good enough to play the game on ultra graphics. But I switched to it with my 4 gigabyte brand new Phenom II quad core. Single player went okay. Multiplayer I had issues with instantly falling through the map once I spawned. Was told that I didn't have the RAM to back up the card. Got new ram upgrading to 16 gigs. Never had the issue again.

1. upgrade to 64 bit. its time.
2. moar ram.

as for gpus, heres a handy site that lists them all in relative terms of performance, as well as if you click on them offers details like $ per performance unit etc etc.

the GTX 660 is the most bang for your buck, the 7850 is a bit cheaper and a bit weaker. if youre looking for cheap, the GTX 460 is only a hundred bucks, and can still preform fairly well. it is a bit dated of a card though. stay away from the gtx 480 since that card has tons of issues.

Hey thanks for the advice folks,

I think i might go for a GTX 460 (bound to be an improvement over the GT 620) just to get me through the next few months and then build myself a beast later in the year..

I have a young nephew who is becoming interested in PC gaming so I could pass my old system on to a new home if it survives another few months of brawling.

you could presumably buy one gtx 460 now, and then get a second one at a later date and SLI them. wont give you quite 2x the performance, but will it will still plow anything you can throw at it fairly easily. the only issue with this is you need a mobo and PSU that can support the power draw and have 2 pcie slots.

oh, and a gt620 wont be able to run anything made in the last 5 years smoothly. a card like that is only good for non gaming pcs so you can watch videos and stuff at decent resolution. honestly most new onboard graphics are better then the low end cards.

Yeh the Gt 620 was in another machine just used for video playback etc, but when my 9800 died i had to slot it into my gaming machine.

My current board does not support sli but when I do get a new board and cpu will definately get sli, moar ram and go 64bit.

MWO is really the only (non old skool) thing im into in pc gaming at the moment so I plan to keep costs down until we see weather they can get the game stable and fully functional.. So getting one card that now that i could potentially pair up (or more) is a good idea.
