now now, be nice. its not the worst. if the AC/2 is like throwing rice, the LBX AC/2 is like throwing confetty.
i battled with this problem in MW and MC and in no way could i make it useful. the worst was when you got into MW:mercs and bought a mech with one

A viable AC/2?

The AC2 has a purpose once you start using some alternate terrains like a moon with normal grav but no atmo so that it is flat and open for you to plink across and while it does not do much it makes your enemy keep his head down and while you can just act as though the AC2 is not there given how low the dmg for it is most people do not do that and will move from cover to cover slowing down their advance.
Alternatively you can utilize the Bane.

Everyone puts their head down when you spit that much fire down range,

Funny thing about combat when someone is shooting you rarely stop to consider if that fire is doing you any damage, most people get out of the line of fire. So AC2 is a good goading/harassment weapon light mech AC2 plinking on a heavy to get it to turn toward it leaving his buddies exposed to your heavies lying in wait.
AC2 is not a good weapon but it's not a weapon people just ignore either

Yeah, I think it will be most useful for long-range distraction. It would be worth using an AC2 to put a few rounds into a Catapult while it's trying to line up an LRM volley, for instance. It might screw up the enemy pilot's attempts to get lock.

I'm thinking that with lasers doing their damage over a two second period the auto cannons are going to be looking much
More attractive.

It will also depend on how easy it is to keep those beams on target. I suspect lasers will be less useful against the smaller, more agile mechs.

well give me a swaybacked hunchback w/2 ac-2's and 4 med lsrs and that will turn a few heads as the cyclic rate for ac-2s should be pritty fast soo plinking armer off at long range will be fun hehehehe
have tried this lay out in other mw games and is very do able tehehe
used to use a jagermech w/ 4 ac-2s in tt and was a clan buster till thay closed on me! 8-0

Why don't we just poll on making the AC/2 lighter 1 or 2 tons so that we can stack them. This would make use of a lot of awkward ballistic slots on Mechs like the CN9-3D and Yen Lo Wang. I could imagine a few ac/2's coupled together could do a great bit of damage and definitely disrupt the enemy's view. I believe there is an atlas build that has 2-3 ballistic slots in it's right torso that these could fit in at a reasonable weight, so that they both may become useful to the player base.

Wow, Zion- you're quoting a thread that had it's last post from JUNE. Months and many, MANY updates prior.
The AC/2's seen a lot of improvements since then, to the point of being a rather viable ballistic weapon, especially mounted in double or even triple mounts. It's now much more common (and effective) on the battlefield.

Thread necromancy aside...
I find it amusing to have this thread and a thread about the AC/2 being OP open in my browser at the same time.
