I like ECM because it's invincible.

It can eat 60+ pages of feedback conversation complete with repeatedly stated problems and solutions from the player base (who without doubt have more play time than the Devs) and survive almost untouched.

It has divine protection from a biased(unbalanced) diety.

Completely, laughably, wrong. Don't even know where to begin with this.

AMS was never a 100% counter to LRMs. It reduced their effectiveness against the target mech, not eliminated it. ECM completely eliminates any threat caused by LRMs. 100%.

And that is simply not true. Pre-ECM, firing LRM's at fast scout, that "could be targeted" ffs, was seen and typed in the Chat all the time, "Don't waste your ammo Stupid!"

So! Did the fast Scout completely eliminate any threat caused by LRMs? Crazy thing happened. The LRM carries fired at the "other" targets that were available. Wild eh!

ECM can be countered, has been countered, and is to this day, being countered on the Maps of MWO and Missiles are finding their targets.

If not enough of your Missiles are, then perhaps you should not blame the Tool but instead blame the Operator.

ECM will be like everything else the Community QQ's about. Mediocre at best.

That day will be...a damn shame.

With missiles being nearly worthless now, it's basically all one big pewpew powpow. It's bad enough that the damage was hacked to almost nothing, but you still can't reliably get any locks vs ECM teams. No idea why they're removing IFF jammer instead of any number of other things that could have actually helped the problem. Just like with the MG/flamer "buff", they wait ages to do anything, then do a round about change that doesn't help the problem rather than anything that would; all the while completely ignoring the community that's drowned them in better ideas or solutions to it. This developer is really starting to shine as a clueless lost cause. The only ones happy are the ones that like gimmick cheese no skill copy/paste FotM builds rather than variety and balance.

Finally, anyone who uses ECM should NEVER EVER make a statement about easy buttons. You don't even need to press a single key to use ECM. Its on all the time and always "hits". A 2 year old could use ECM and not mess it up. It is the very definition of EASY BUTTON!

I will assume you do know that ECM has 2 modes right? The best ECM pilots know how and when, to use one or the other to there best effect. Any ECM pilots that just leaves it on, is not doing it right.

But that might explain why so many LRM boaters gripe all the time. Share your ECM with both your teammates and the enemy team. It works way better that way.

Mini map pings and macros would help. A lot. A better battle grid would help.

In wwiionline you can plce icons for enemy contact that fade over time .. so I can glance at my map and tell instantly that there were 3 citings in g4 less than 30 seconds ago.

I guess I liked in an rhod where one team could cycle which atlas was in front. With ecm, this let you bait and switch the enemy into spreading fire. You need a better way to yell "shoot the atlas" but I'm not sure that hiding the designator is a bad thing.

I don't know of a good way to code targetting that can't be used to h elp spotting. Since you can't see target of target though, I don't see how ecm hurts your ability to call focus fire in a pug vs on teamspeak. Of course promoting shorthand on the forums might help.

"Can we all agree "

I guess what I'm saying is that I like that it hinders focus fire, but this game needs a better way to call targets . Although you can type jgr40 preyy fast. Or maybe. "K jgr40" as shorthand for kill jaegermechb (jgr is jaeger. The 40 is optional.

I lIke ECm because it is problematic only to people that have no situation awareness and depends on hand holding form a mini map.

NEVER used ECM myself, but never felt any problem fighting them

You're right, everyone who doesn't have a 500 wpm type-speed, can't take down a 3L while typing, and who doesn't have an eidetic memory of their teammates location on the map when they enter into an ECM exclusion zone clearly just sucks at this game...

This is players incompetence problem. Not a game issue. These players need to learn, or continue to fail!

This is a really caustic attitude that doesn't help anyone. If a huge chunk of the community really struggles to cope with a feature, after months and months then it's a bad game feature, period. Gameplay is made for players, not the other way around.

ECM adds layers of complexity and tactics to the game that it was lacking beforehand.

Really? Because I never see good missile boats anymore, I almost never see anyone scouting, unless they're a 3L. Actually, most 3L's don't scout, they go scout killing, because hunting implies a chance of failure. Anyway, because of ECM scouting is useless unless you have a mic. You can type enemies positions, but there's inevitably an ECM make it impossible to get enough information on the screen, and no one is going to read it anyway.

I agree with the other ECM QQers on this board (that's right, I'll own up to it). Most of the posts on here about "liking" ECM are really about disliking the current implementation of other roles in the game or simply being able to tolerate an incredibly broken feature.

More sweeping generalizations. Well done sir.

Just so I get this straight. For the inevitable "next" thread on this topic.

It is not that "we" really like ECM, we just dislike the other "roles" that can make use of it and we just suck at those roles so we will tolerate it? That about right?

LOL And here I thought it was just me... (Holy Smokes Batman)

First and foremost, I love it for the vast flowing rivers of male nerd rage tears that it continues to produce.

So basically, you like it because other people don't? How incredibly juvenile to defend a feature solely because you like to see other people not have fun.

How is this for situational awareness: I can use my mk 1 eyeballs to see that my friends list is nearly empty every time I log into the game because of issues like ECM?

What exactly does ECM do to increase the roles needed? Nothing that's what. It does not encourage team play to stomp on non-TS using pugs and it does not encourage balanced 3;

Actually. It encoourages scouting and supports such by keeping scouts alive.
The game needs a lot of tweaks. I don't like the current implementation in its entirety. But it does do this.

The problem is that the 3l is king. This destroys light diversity.
I say give ecm to all lights except the jenner. Let the jenner keep the best hard points (and great speed and firepower. It's the combat light).
Then, drop the 3l to the same engine restrictions as the other ravens.

Now the role of ecm is clear, and it'ss easier to balance because it is more predictable. Ths also adds build diversit. It also makes it a light mech role. Not arole filled by at most 4 variants out of 50 plus.
A pillar of your game cannot be built on 2 percent of the available mechs needing to be 25 percent of every team.

Take the jenner (any) as a fast combt mech. Take your fav raven as a heavy hitting scout. Take the spider as a fast scout.
Take the flea or commando because ...they introduced weight matching (this is why they need it). Those are fast specialzed builds that give the team bigger weight room for assaults).

Also, flea and cmdo need a 150 kph (w tweak) speed cap. Right now cmd is always slower than raven. That's bad.

Then nerf as needed. (Ecm does need some nerfs).

I'm sorry but needing to press 1 key if you wish to switch from one always on, never miss mode to a different always on, never miss mode does not mean that ECM isn't easy mode. It just means you have 2 flavors of easy mode.

ECM does not need a nerf, IW needs to be implemented. Right now you have one block of the pillar laid, and a lot of bricks are baking in the sun, some more are being formed.

It's kind of like: Lasers are in the game, Ballistic weapons are in but we haven't figured out the ammo yet, and there will be these things called missiles later. Ergo, lasers are OP!

Wow you hit stuff with ECM and get kills? you mean you don't use weapons like streaks on exploits like raven3L and then blame everything on ECM? It is only ECM that is why we see so many spiders and cicadias hunh?

Obviously, you completely decided to ignore #2 by mocking it.

As as for #1, PGI already said that ECM was close to where they wanted it to be. I and many others decided to accept what was said and prepared accordingly. On the other hand, there are those that simply refused to adapt and continued on to cry like little babies. Would you rather I pitied them?

Oh, and by "accept", I meant I figured out what they had in mind and I liked the challenge it offered to those who wanted to try to beat ECM-heavy teams.
