So yeah i'm one of those i'd rather have speed than power as long as I can still lay a hurting. The way peoplep talk in the forums and such has led me to believe that the main stays of this game will be medium and heavy with well placed scout and assault this just seems like how a real mech battle would go cause I seriously doubt that you would want to send a lance of assault into an enemy base seeing as they are walking billboards of hey we have an hour before they get here call everyone back.

but yeah medium and light for me most likely

I'm sure at some point I'll mess around with an assault mech but straight away at launch? No.

Nope. I prefer 'Mechs with maneuverability. Assault 'Mechs are simply large, slow targets... with a lot of guns.

Brawn over brains right?
Iron fist.

I am a little worried that this may be a common pick, heavier=better.
If anything your skill as a player should be a defining factor in battle, despite your mech size.

I'll be using medium/heavy pretty exclusively unless they come out with the Battlemaster or the Banshee. Then, yeah, I'd join the Assault train only because I love those two mechs.

Usually, I wouldn't start off with an Assault.

Something someone else said in another thread comes to mind though, that might change my opinion:
Namely, if the assaults really are the most expensive, as in canon, it would make sense to take that one as your free starter, simply for budget reasons. I wouldn't know if I'm gonna use it, maybe I will, and it'd be hard to get a new one if it's that expensive.

OR if I tried it out and don't like it, I can sell it and buy a smaller one for the price, heck, maybe even tune it.
If you chose a light mech first though, and after trying it out, start to notice you don't like that playstyle at all however, you won't have that opportunity: Selling it would give you much less than any of the other, possibly not enough to even buy a new medium or heavy or assault, and even if, possibly leaving you with not enough C-bills to tune anything to your liking. So you'll be stuck until you made enough c-bills in the chassis type you hate until you can get one you like.

I don't yet have an idea for the devs how to fix that though....

It wouldn't be my first pick, but I wouldn't mind and assault mech. Though I prefer speed over big guns and heavy armor. I like being able to run circles around the big guys and blast 'em in the back.

I am going to be in my Jenner looking for that confused Assault Mech wandering around alone learning his controls.

Then I will run around him in a circle for 45 seconds destroying him with my lasers, while he freaks out trying to turn, aim and just get a hit in.

/ Assault rage quit

P.S. Assaults will cost a lot of money to properly loadout with good weapons and to repair after battle, not a fast earner early on, I bet.

Medium Mech for me, I'm a jack of all trades kinda guy. If I have to pilot an assault it'll be a "light" assault since I like SOME kind of responsiveness from my mechs.

I support the use of assault mechs, just not by me. I support the use of artillery even more...I have a David vs Goliath-underdog-winning-against-the-odds-complex

Everyone seems to believe we get a founders mech and a starter mech. I'm wondering if they are one in the same and we are only getting the bonus that comes with founders pack for our starter mech? Calling it a founders mech! Damn, I hope not!

I'll be using one. But not for the AlphaStrike. For the survivability. You see I'll be in a Command role, and I prefer to do so from the front line, and not havign to worry about dodging shots all the time.

I frankly dont know what to say. Except that I hope you dont cause too many people to quit the game before I can convince them to stay.

A lot will depend on terrain. I'd want to look at the maps, the size of the map, the type of terrain before I settled on a mech. That said I have nothing against assault mechs. Their firepower is critical in an assault role, which is amazingly why they are called assault mechs...

IF they bring up those sexy warhammers, marauders, battlemasters, archers...maybe i´ll buy one of those later...but basically no, i won´t start with one over 65 tons... most likely i´ll buy the Catapult from the founder´s package and later a raven or cicada...not sure yet, but something like that

I'm not for sure but it seems from what I've read, you have to build up to mechs through cbills/L-points and experience via a tree like system that allow you to use a class of mech (light, med, heavy, assault) So I'm pretty sure day one everyone will be in lights. I could be wrong of course.
As for Warhammers, and Archers I dont thing we'll every see one as the image of said mechs belongs to someone besides FASA.

I am not really sure i'm kinda stuck in between wanting to play a heavy or Assault first right now the Catapult and other heavies look fun but so do the Assaults ;)
