Its been so many years since I last played, I'm basically new to the game again. I prefered the med's or hvy's but if the team needs an assualt, they usually put me in one. I'm always a tank in any mmo my clan plays. Probably do like Toothman says & take an assault for Founders, then decide what else for f2p.

My first 'mech will definitely be a medium or heavy, depending on what the starter 'mechs are, but because of all the vitriol and hate thrown the way of assault 'mechs in general on here I'm seriously considering picking up an assault as my second or third 'mech just to spite people, show them that practiced assault pilots deserve respect too.

But it will be better to have lighter options in the 'mechlab already so I don't wind up hogging the drop limit if other people on the team only have heavier 'mechs to field.

i personally think ill be sticking with the Catapult, i like the fact it's small and fast. may get me into sticky situations, may get me out of them, never know until the game starts.

no assault for me, very difficult to maneuver in, i can not wait to position my commando in an atlas his backside and
pump a couple of srm rounds in it.

Nope I'm either going Dragon/Cataphract or Centurion depending on what my 2 friends are going to pilot.

All I have to say about those who love the bigger is better theory is...They had better know how to play with an assault or they will be chewed up and spat out onto the field o battle. teamwork will put an Atlas on it's face quickly if it is piloted poorly

I'll probably start with the Centurion and the Founders Catapult, just to learn the game, Assault will come later

Thinking about taking that founders Atlas, since it seems like something I wouldn't mind keeping around. Delicious cbill bonus. Also eyepatch.

Doubt it would be my most played mech though. I prefer something in the 70-85 ton range generally. The Cataphract looks like a great one to keep around for general use, so I'll likely end up with one of those unless they unveil an ungodly 75-ton.

Gonna be a lot of leroys who think their team revolves around them because they got the biggest mech. However those that do know how to use an assault will have an easier time making name for themselves due to this.

I second the thought of a founder atlas. If I use an assault its gonna be expensive to maintain, so the founders bonus offsets that nicely.

I am going to be in my Jenner looking for that confused Assault Mech wandering around alone learning his controls.

Then I will run around him in a circle for 45 seconds destroying him with my lasers, while he freaks out trying to turn, aim and just get a hit in.

/ Assault rage quit

P.S. Assaults will cost a lot of money to properly loadout with good weapons and to repair after battle, not a fast earner early on, I bet.

I frankly dont know what to say. Except that I hope you dont cause too many people to quit the game before I can convince them to stay.

It was a joke, it does happen with tanks at times though in another game. Hopefully it's not that easy with mechs.
Although if I ever had the chance to kill a heavy in a scout, I would take it. ;)

Title and poll says it. Let me know what you are thinking on this matter. I for one want to see how many people really just want the assault mech.

I prefer to avoid walking around in an assault mech. It just screams "shoot me first!"

yes because i could give it a load out that will support others and dish out some hurting. i might not be in the thick of things per say but i will gladly defend objective and support others where needed, and on the of chance that i am in the heart of the battle i want to own things...lol

So why are people showing so much hatred over assaults and sound like they want to make love to light mechs.

Nothing wrong with bringing more guns to a gun fight . I've never seen a game where people take all fatties. Though just because someone takes a fatty doesn't mean they don't know what they're doing.

I chose the yes big and sexy option because it was the only one that fit - you didn't give an option for simply 'Yes, but I'm not a cheesing ******'. I'm going assault when with my company because I love being a bullet blocker. The more armour, the better. Then, and only then, will I begin piling on the guns. If I can manage some speed, I will, but mainly it's all about the armour. I dance in the middle of the alley, rocking with my ACs, PPC/LL if I have the heat and tonnage for if I run out of ammo (Though I plan not to leave that as a viable option), and let my team do the hard hitting while I just get in the other teams way. A fully armoured Atlas is damn hard to drop, and still has enough tonnage left over to have enough guns to be foolish to ignore.
Though, I'm hoping for a Devastator. Still has speed, some hefty guns, endosteel and FF as basic, which should leave room for CASE and more armour.

God no, this game is going to be jammed with MechAssault noobs whose first and only choice will be the biggest, scariest mech they can get because BIG ROBOTZ R OSSUM. Wouldn't be surprised to see teams of 80% Atlases.

And then, because you have to pay or play a lot to get your second mech, they can't give up their stupid Atlas choice quickly and will get tired of the Atlas spam and quit.

I'd just like to say that I first learned about the Battletech universe through MechAssault, and it was the only thing I knew about for years before I was introduced to Battletech proper. Even still, I plan on getting a Founder's Hunchback (or maybe Catapult, that thing looks EPIC!), and for a secondary I will probably want a Raven.
