One of the main problems of MWO and its community is the nature of luck. A German comedian Dr.Hirschhausen – a real doctor that used laughing for therapy – had made a good example. I think that example fit 100% at the behavior of all active forum users. That is not their fault, it is the fault of nature.
You can make the example self:
Take a random college, say you want to make a test. Give him 20 bucks - then ask him if he is more lucky as before…and maybe (depends on his income) he is.
Leave him alone for a little while, come back some minutes later … and ask him to give you the 20 bucks back.
You can be sure that he is less satisfied than he was before you gave him the 20 bucks.
As you see although the start and end point of this test are the same – the hormones of your colleague will leave him less satisfied in the end.

And that is exactly what happens here with every nerf or buff. You can hardly buff any weapon without people screaming, because they didn’t used that weapon – but they will not tell.
Or nerf another weapon and people will scream again…because they only used that type of weapon.
So the best way is to ignore all those screaming. Even when it means that you have to ignore me. ;-)

So what you can do to outline a single weapon useless ness or OP behavior… never take the weapon alone – always consider it as a part of whole thing.
So for example:
I say the Large Laser is to powerful. Increase the heat. But what about other weapons…the heat increase will narrow the LLAS to the ERLLAS, 3 Medium Laser on the other hand will deal better damage with cost of some range. So it is not the Large Laser that is to powerful but the Medium Laser? Decreasing damage of the Medium Laser? What about the Light Laser? Decreasing its damage too?
So let’s pretend you have balanced all that laser weapons, what about LRMs, SRMs, SSRMs, ACs, Gauss and PPCs? Are they still an alternative – useless or the better choice?

So when you make a balance suggestion – always consider all factors. Make some calculations if you mind.

You saw this a lot with WOW... when a class was nerfed... there was tears and anger, but it eventually dwindled and people got used to it.

I didn't play WoW but some friends did and I remember hearing about this. I thought the whining only stopped because the whiners switched to whichever class was OP after their favorite class was nerfed.

Some did... you got the whole "flavor of the month" thing going. But a lot of people, like myself, just got on with it.

Same here...some change...and some - like me do the same stuff they did since closed beta.

...oh they nerfed the LRM...hm ok i need another salvo to break the armor in addition with my Gauss....
...damn they have increased the velocity for the ppc...my lead was to much....
