You get paid based on performance. If you want more XP, then do more of those things that generate XP. If your Mech is not designed to do those things, then why do you think you should get rewarded the same as those Mechs who are, but are also not often ineligible to do those that your Mech can?

:)

Capping wins Conquest more often than not.

You can get C-Bills and XP for spotting for your team, assuming they have LRMs. This can be quite rewarding, as you can get up to 56 spotting bonuses per match if you're good at it.
You can get C-Bills and XP for using TAG and/or NARC to light up targets, again assuming your team has LRMs.
You get C-Bills for every resource point you gain in Conquest mode, even if your team loses.
You get XP for assisting in the capture of the base in Assault mode, assuming a cap win.

First two are more or less moot, LRMs might as well be nonexistent right now. Even if they weren't, it's currently a very bad gamble on the light's part to spot for an LRM boat and hope that the enemy team won't have PPC/gauss.

You do gain cbills for capping in conquest! But usually not any more than you would get just for playing in an assault game at all.

And yay, I get 50xp for assisting in a cap win! That's great! I mean, the assaults who sat back and seemed unsure of which direction the enemy base was in all got the same default 75xp bonus that you also get for a cap win though. And they also get up to 200xp per kill, and up to an additional 300 for the same kill if any teammates happen to have exposed components when they get said kill. But you know, who needs all that, we have the capping xp to make up for it.

No, you cannot. It's once per enemy, so 8 max. And it's only 25 XP each.

Again, once per enemy. 25 XP each.

Yes, the main C-Bill and XP rewards are for getting kills and assists. If you don't want to engage in direct combat, just make sure to shoot every enemy 'Mech once during the match. If you do it while they are already engaged with a bigger friendly, they likely won't notice your shots. Those assist bonuses add up.

What's funny is that you get shitloads of XP and CB from the new Saviour/Defensive rewards - and the assists are as big as the kills. Regular kills are scaled with the damage you do, but the new ones give 150/7,500 even if you did just 1 damage.

Running around capping bases makes for a boring game, so the rewards for doing so are lower. Combat is encouraged because it's far more fun to blow stuff up.

For you. You forgot that.

For me in a light 'mech, running around capping bases, pulling enemies off the main fight to respond, finding the enemy, TAGging/NARCing, harassing, and generally being a nuisance is just as fun as just "blowing stuff up". It just doesn't pay half as good.

Another thing ... you don't get penalized for not blowing 'Mechs up. You simply don't get rewarded as much.

You do get penalized. On a great game while playing my Spider, where I cap pretty much the whole round ... I get rewarded 400xp.

How is getting rewarded 400 xp being penalized instead of not getting rewarded as much?

I agree fully with OP.

I choose a mech and therefore a role before ever entering a match, and sometimes when the tide turns I even have to try adapting to roles I'm not suited for like "racing" for a base save in an Atlas.

That's all part of the game. I don't hate it, I love it. Now if only we got rewarded for those base saves. Got rewarded for all that sneaky scouting and the base steals that wins games. The lone standing mech that fought off three of the opposition at once to turn defeat into victory. In other words, If only we had truly tactical benefits rewards and risks that must be accounted for in play.

We can dream...
