I'm a native Mongolian and in BT universe, most Mongol references or terminologies reside within the Clans. We all know the common terms like ilKhan, Touman, Keshik etc...inside Clan structure. What is less known is that a few Bloodnames, such as Anu (Hell's Horses) and Mandaka (Jade Falcons), and Kharlan (Wolverine, now eliminated) are Mongolian names.

I searched for any vestiges of the Mongols in the Inner Sphere. To my surprise, I had found several nuggets of information.

1. Mongolia's capital city, Ulaan Baatar is the name of not one, but two planets. One in Fed Com and one in Cap Com.

2. A Mongolian town named Baruun Urt is also a planet's name in Draconic Combine.

3. Mongolian is one of the dominant languages in the FLW--more precisely in the Principality of Regulus. I was very surprised by this because I had chosen Marik as my house after some deliberation (purple just looked better with orange Founder's tag), not knowing that fact.

What is even more surprising was that my favorite Marik unit just happened to be the 1st Regulan Hussars (they hate Liao a lot and kicked every Liao *** they can find). Talk about coincidence!

I read a biography on Genghis Khan, and not only did I learn his real name, I learned the immense amount of **** he and what he created managed to do, especially considering how long ago they lived. Not surprising Battletech would have Mongolian stuff, at one point they made the majority of China, the Muslim Kingdoms, and the Catholic kingdoms their *****.

Isn't it something like 0.2 (no way it's a full 2) percent of the population is related to him, because if his wild women activities? Is there someone like that in the lore? Lol

It's actually half a percent of the male population.

Interesting topic and kudos for having done your research. I too wondered about Mongolians (or those of Mongol bloodlines) in Battletech after I saw a certain Jagatai Khan in-game marked as a Kuritan.

Also good to see a native Mongolian who plays MWO, I'm very interested in Mongolian history myself so this thread was a pleasant surprise. ^.^

I'm still working on my harem and getting it packed with concubines, but my wife is somewhat against the idea.

Well-researched!

Serious Mongolophile here... always been fascinated by the Mongolian influences in the Clans; didn't know about the IS influences. The Clans obviously have a heavy basis in the Mongolian invasions, and a lot of their terminology suggests this, but the analogy breaks down when you consider that the Mongols were historically powerful in great part because of their eschewal of ideas of "honorable combat."

However, the similarities are striking:
1) Highly successful military forces, generally grossly outnumbered, though almost completely undefeated up to a point where others began to adopt their tactics.
2) Emphasis on cavalry ('mech) warfare as opposed to cheaper, less mobile, infantry (and crawlers). Related excellence in war of maneuver.
3) Preference to leave administration of conquered lands to locally recruited stooges.
and so much more... (find your own!)
