There is a significant speed difference between the two cards, but not 50 percent worth. I think the sc will be good enough to not hold you back.

thank you for your input! That will probably be the card I get. I look forward to, hopefully, resolving this thread in satisfaction after I buy and install the new GPU

Is there a nice site to show card comparisons? It would be nice to see which would handle the aspects of this game.

I suspect my ATI Radeon HD 4600 is the reason for the low frame rates, even when tweaked out with Afterburn. I suppose I'll upgrade to an awesome HP soon anyway.

a 4600 is ancient. It is by far holding you back. Doesn't matter the exact model all 46 series were even a little poo at the time of release. A 7790 or 7850 would be a nice upgrade for you if you have the coin around.

as I've mentioned, I'm not too PC-savvy, so bear with me on this one...

the GPU I'm looking at getting (GTX 660 SC) says that it supports SLI. I don't really know what that is, but I did read on the MWO Wiki that the game doesn't support [yet] SLI. Does this mean I can't use this card, or it's just not an optional feature I can utilize with MWO? Thanks :)

if you don't know what sli is im wondering what the chances are you could unknowing simply have a bug slowing down your computer, torrents ect... don't spend money until you get advice from people in real life, someone to look over your setup make sure your not missing something silly. ps. sli is nvidias wording for mutli gpu setup, same as amd's "crossfire" edit: ya like one buddy up there pointed out some people with nice video cards are running into this problem post last patch so you really should wait unless your looking to upgrade anyway

I'm guessing its a GPU issue the one you have is very weak.

However just to check have you installed the required .net framework packages, they should be included in general windows updates.

His CPU is stronger than mine (locked Quad core Q9550) and I can run this software without issues.
Maybe he should try to run it with the razer speed booster (IIRC).

Maybe he has something in his windows configuration, or the services running and hogging its resources.

My PC is downright bare. I built it strictly for basic usage, internet browsing, HD playback, and word processing. Now I'm looking to upgrade for this game. I don't torrent. I have no additional software except the basics (and Media Monkey). I have Avast.

what about the GTX 650 Ti SC?

ignore what I said earlier I misunderstood what gpu you are running because of AMD's numbering schemes. you have to replace that gpu... ouch lol http://www.videocard...h_end_gpus.html

you cant go wrong there, your g3d mark goes from 293 to 4,074, the extra 100 bucks for the ti would only bring you up 600 more points which dosnt count for a lot since you just went up almost 4000 for 200 bucks, in your situation for what you want, perfect buy. +1 evga +2 nvidia

thank you all for your help. I've successfully installed an EVGA GeForce GTX 660 and everything runs beautifully at 60 fps.

NOW my problem is actually playing the game...I'm horrible at weapon firing and groups. All I want to do, for starters, is scroll through the weapons available using whatever key and fire it with the left mouse button. I've searched YouTube and the provided Training Videos. Am I just being thick about it? Quite possibly.

use the arrow key's to scroll across the weapon groups, then use right CTL to assign them to different groups.

I [more or less] understand that, but what about not grouping them at all? Or, hey, having one weapon per group. So say I have 3 weapons, I want 3 individual groups. and so on.

Jumped back into training grounds to rework the weapon grouping and try to get a feel for it...I pretty much got what I wanted, thank you, but I do have a question: my arsenal listed that I had 2 Large Lasers, yet I couldn't manage to fire them simultaneously. I thought that in order to do so I'd needto group them into one group (so I kept my Gauss in 1 and put both Lasers in 2, but to no avail)
