Hi!

Im new to the Mechwarrior series and im excited to give this game a try.

I had a few questions i would like to ask about the series and games so that i have some knowledge of what im getting myself into.

1: I forget what game it was, but it was a mech game. This mech game required a special keyboard to play (it was what i would imagine sitting in a jet would be like 0.0). My guess was the game was like $60 and the controller was an additional $100 or so.
To the point: Am i going to need special equipment to play this game? I currently have a standard keyboard with a number-pad, and a mouse with Left and Right clicking, a click-able Wheel, and two buttons at the thumb. Will that be enough for playing any role in this game?

2: As i have said before, this would be my first MechWarrior game, or any mech game at that. If you could choose only one MW game to play to introduce me to the series, what would it be? And are any of them on the X-box 360 so I may rent it?

3: Will there be more than just two legged mechs? Yeah I know two legs dominate the series, but as a Zoids fan, I think four legs is an epic weapons platform. No, I am not expecting to get a shiny Command Wolf in this game, but maybe something like a short legged AT-AT with an artillery gun on the back :(

4: and is there anything more I should know about this game or the series?

Thx guys ;)

1...I think the game you are talking about in question 1 is Steel Battalion. And no you do not need a massive key board or game set up like that to play this game.

2...there are no MW games that are on xbox 360 so no help there but if you have a computer you may want to look into any of the MW PC games.

3... at the moment there is only 2 legged mech but the DEVS have said they would like to add Quads once they get past the challenges Quad builds may have at the moment. But keep your fingers crossed ;)

4... anything else you need answered... look here. READ ALL the DEVS Blogs and your control questions for mouse and keyboard play is here as well.

The easiest and cheapest way I know to get that "Mechwarrior feeling," is to go to MekTek, and download the "FREE" Mechwarrior 4! If you have an older system to use, it may work better, but you can get it to work on a current system. I will get the link and edit into my post in a bit. see ya, uncle danno

Here is the link you need.http://www.mektek.ne...downloads-r1204

Welcome! I'm pretty new around here too, done more lurking than posting but I'll try my best with your questions.

1. That should be sufficient for playing this game. The designers have been working to accommodate all sorts of controls, but a standard keyboard and mouse should be able to accomplish everything.

2. Mechwarrior games are PC only, though the xbox had the mech assault games, you could try one of those. I've never played them but I believe the gameplay is quite different than MW, it should introduce you to the universe.

3.2-legged is the focus at this point, though the developers haven't flat out denied other configurations later on down the road.

4. Poke around this site, in particular the pinned topic about this game covers a lot of the basics, or head to the sarna battletech wiki for information about the universe.

Well here we go:

1) The game can be played via a normal Mouse and Keyboard. For some information regarding the controls look here.

2) I haven't played many Mechwarrior games. but the easiest way would be Mekteks Mechwarrior 4: Mercenaries since this can be downloaded legally for free. The older Mechwarrior games tend to have many problems with the newer Windows Systems. I think there are some BattleTech adaptions for the X-Box but most people tend to avoid them.
For some general Background about BattleTech, you could read up some Stuff on the Wiki.

3). There are four legged mechs, so called Quad Mechs in the BattleTech universe. Maybe they will be implemented in the future, but right now there are none in Mechwarrior Online.

4) Well, you could check out the Wiki. Concerning the Closed Beta and Founders Pack i humbly recommend my FAQ as well as another Thread. Besides of that, all the Dev Blogs, Q&As etc. that can be found here contain a ton of Information.

Welcome aboard! Looks like some other beat me to the punch of answering your questions. Since you are new I strongly recommend taking some time to read :

and

There is a lot of useful information there that should answer any follow up questions you may have. They are quite lengthy but very informative of MWO.

most of your questions have been answered well so far. Only thing I would add is that you may want to purchase a good joystick, and a headset for commo with whatever group you join(if you join a group that is), as most of us who play regularly with the same people will be using a service to communicate while playing.

Cool i have a headset for vent/TS/est.

What kind of joystick would i need? Im guessing it will control the Legs? Will it need a lot of button? only a few?

thx ;)

EDIT: @ all the posters:
