As a lot of you know, there's been hefty discussion about what loadout the Orion should have. Namely, the classic appearance which it's always had (SRM 4 in the LA) doesn't match its loadout (SRM 4 in the LT).
The MWO concept art shows its appearance matching the old TROs rather than the old artwork, which means that sadly we're not getting Orions with SRM-arms...
...except, look at the Heavy Metal. Compare its loadout with a Highlander. It has all of the same guns, but they're almost all in different spots! Where the Highlander has Medium Lasers in its torso and an SRM arm, the Heavy Metal has an SRM torso and a Medium Laser arm. It's craziness!
If the dev team is willing to do something like that for the Heavy Metal, why not the Orion? The Orion hero 'Mech could be nothing more than a made-up variant that has SRMs in its LA instead of the LT, as well as probably some other changes... but players who want to buy the Hero version and just tweak it to be a stock version that matches the old artwork will be able to.
I'm pretty sure that's what's going to happen. Because after all, if there are X number of people who like buying Hero 'Mechs, that number only gets bigger if that Hero 'Mech matches old artwork people love and miss.
With good ole heavy metal if you read the original lore behind Rhonda and her HM you will see that they found a cache of SL era mechs Wolfs Dragoons told them they had to be stripped down and refitted with "current" tech (read current as crappy none SL era tech).
Once she completed her plan to say that her group attack and stole mechs from ComStar she was "allowed" to refit the Heavy Metal with SL era tech altering the mech even more.
