As a lot of you know, there's been hefty discussion about what loadout the Orion should have. Namely, the classic appearance which it's always had (SRM 4 in the LA) doesn't match its loadout (SRM 4 in the LT).

The MWO concept art shows its appearance matching the old TROs rather than the old artwork, which means that sadly we're not getting Orions with SRM-arms...

...except, look at the Heavy Metal. Compare its loadout with a Highlander. It has all of the same guns, but they're almost all in different spots! Where the Highlander has Medium Lasers in its torso and an SRM arm, the Heavy Metal has an SRM torso and a Medium Laser arm. It's craziness!

If the dev team is willing to do something like that for the Heavy Metal, why not the Orion? The Orion hero 'Mech could be nothing more than a made-up variant that has SRMs in its LA instead of the LT, as well as probably some other changes... but players who want to buy the Hero version and just tweak it to be a stock version that matches the old artwork will be able to.

I'm pretty sure that's what's going to happen. Because after all, if there are X number of people who like buying Hero 'Mechs, that number only gets bigger if that Hero 'Mech matches old artwork people love and miss.

While I suspect we won't get this with the hero, because the hero will almost be unquestionably the Kerensky variant (lasers instead of the SRM, if I remember right).

However I would very much like a variant of the Orion, canon or not, with an arm mounted SRM.

Personally I want the SRMs in the torso.

(So I can rip the arms off, stick a huge engine in it, and run it like a fast DDC with no ECM or MLas.)

The SRM arm is a separate variant. So free of charge, hopefully.

Well, the ON1-M has a whole LRM 20 in the arm.

And ON1-V has an SRM 4 in each arm... so yeah.

I bet the hero Orion will be "Lady Death" Trevaline's mech instead of Kerensky's.

alex said he left the rim of the arm barrels wide for a reason.

i assumed a variant of the orion had arm missiles

But as for kerensky's orion it doesn't have arm missiles

As I said, both Orion-N and Orion-V have rockets in arms.

Quote from TRO:3039

"Variants

....The only variants that are seen regularly involve
adding a second SRM launcher. The ON1-V relocates the
SRM launcher to the left arm while adding another to the
right...."

Its not going to be Kerensky's Orion because that one had snub-nose PPC.

I don't want an arm-mounted SRM pack. I want arm-mounted beam weapons for aiming. I prefer to boat large amounts of torso-aligned SRMs anyway, that way I can fire my 2 main weapon groupings in a 1-2 punch sort of fashion.

Wang is supposed to have a melee weapon. Snub PPC will simply be a regular ER PPC.

House Kurita salvaged an Orion Battlemech that is supposedly the one Kerensky piloted before the Exodus and was left at some scrapyard system. It was repaired, refitted and given to the young Theodore Kurita. ( source )

So we might just as well see a "Teddy Kurita" Hero that would in fact be a refitted Kerensky hero. It even fits the timeline.

What am I saying, the devs dont care about the time line. They put in the Highlander before the Banshee.

Banshee is a worse Mech in almost every way. Undergunned and hated.

Why would anyone want SRM's at this point?
