I find it sad when I am a the top of the EoR board in my Commando and the bottom four guys together total the damage I did :P

Even sadder when the bottom 4 guys are running heavies and assaults and you are topping the list in a light and playing scout/point at the beginning of the game.

Cheers!

It depends what mech you run on how you should handle things. Running an LRM build, generally you do not want to be in the direct fire fight. Running my AC20 Hunch, if I am the first person to engage, I will be dead before contributing much, but if the assaults are the first to the fight, and I am a second or two behind, I add a ton of fire power. So hanging back may be a product of what they are playing. However, anyone who has pugged has found themselves in the situation where people hesitated or turned and fled for a "more advantageous spot" when pressing an advantage was the course of action, and then you are caught too far out and are dead. Sometimes that is a bad decision, sometimes it is a noob, sometimes it is an id10t, I try to assume the first 2 as everyone makes bad decisions from time to time and everyone was new and learning the game at some time.

Why do so many players hang back and more or less run away from enemy fire? I don't mean taking cover. I don't mean nesting in good LRM/sniper positions. I mean scattering in terror the moment a shot goes over their heads. You can see them on the tactical map: always facing anywhere but the enemy, usually until the end of the match where their until-then immaculate Heavy Metal is chased down and cut to pieces. What is the reason behind this behavior?

It is called: FLANKING THE ENEMY.

You will learn to get used to it.

He's not talking about flanking.

He's talking about people who hang out at corners while the entire enemy team sits there and mashes you with alphas when you pop out to fire your large lasers.

These people, paradoxically, NEVER flank, and their behavior is apparently contagious, since I never see once person doing it but I see five.

I love how these people usually kill the match for others.

And when they rush, usually too late, they do it in the worst way and burn and die in seconds.

I have seen and been on whole teams that hide hide hide, and the go peek at the worst area of the map in which 1 by 1 their other team mates die..... So painfully pain.

Sometimes I do it to try to get to a flanking position.
Sometimes I do it to keep from getting cored in 3 shots.
Sometimes I do it because the rest of my team already did it leaving me the center of all the fire so I try to at least get behind cover(which almost never works).
