Notice that you did not even do enough damage per match to destroy 1 ton of ammo with your MGs. With the crit buff no less.

Right, but damage per match isn't exactly a great statistic. I wasn't just firing them blindly all the time. I was seeking to remove armor with lasers before using the MGs. You don't get much of an opportunity to use them properly if you don't get through the armor first.

EXACTLY!
The MG is the ONLY weapon in MWO which is useless until another (real) weapon does the heavy lifting.

The fact that Vass and I are agreeing with each other is a terrible sign. It happens very rarely. And when ever it happens I feel like this:
But I hope it can underscore how bad MGs are if Vass and I are in agreement.

Okay, maybe I didn't Fraps that, but it's a pretty accurate depiction. The other guy has (and takes) all day to look around for real threats (he knows machine guns are a joke; it must be a trap). Then he wanders away for a bit, searching for what is surely a more useful target. Finally, I run out of ammo, he runs out of other targets, and I burst into flames.

So 71 matches with MG equiped, 15092 shots hit, 580 damage. 8,16 damage a match. I run with 4 MG, so that's 2,04 damage per MG per match.
GAUSS RIFLE 43 1,150 757 65.83% 03:50:32 11,592
Ooh... 43 matches, 11592 damage.. 270 damage per game average with Gauss. I run these in twos, so 135 damage per Gauss rifle per match.
But Gauss rifles are 15 tons! I could get 30 Machine guns for each Gauss rifle!... which would be 61,2 damage per match. Or 122,4 damage for a theoretical mech packing 60 machine guns. That's not even equal to one Gauss... I'd need 66 machine guns on a mech to equal it.
Maybe its just because the Gauss rifle is so good! Lets compare it to AC/10s which aren't so good.

Oh... 222 damage per match. I use these in pairs as well, so 111 damage per AC/10 per match. For 3 tons less than the Gauss, that's pretty good. Its actually better damage per ton.
So yea, Machine Guns are pointless crap. They could get a damage buff to 0.1 instead of 0.04 and a range up to 180 (400max) and they'd start being OK, as they'd do at least 1 DPS, so the mech with the most ballistics would only get 6 DPS. Most small mechs get 4 ballistics slots so they'd get 4 DPS, which is what they'd get with 4 Small Lasers (which could also use a base range increase).

So it seems that my DPS is 0.24, with a Damage of 11 per match with MG's.
Small Lasers are at a DPS of 15.62, with a Damage of 57 per match.
Medium have a DPS of 28.27, with a Damage of 112 per match.
What surprised me was when I tried calculating the DPS and Damage per match of my other weapons, can a DPS of 138.13 be right for an AC20? As to the top DPS weapons I've used, my Top 5 are the AC20, Gauss, AC10, PPC and LB 10-X AC, and I only used the LB 10-X in three matches, so Large Pulse Lasers were 6th. Again, I dunno if my math is really off or not, so if I did goof somewhere, let me know. Here's a screenshot of the SpreadSheet: Link
