This never happened. 8 months here. It's an urban myth, and PGI are actively buying into it.

I would like to see more people "bite the bullet" and mount some MGs for an evening or two. Run some fights with them, post your results. Especially if you have not used them before, or not used them recently. The more people that we can get to post their findings the more likely it is that we can effect a change.

I haven't used MGs much since stats got put in, since using them seems so self-defeating, but I've got some stats to post:

Only 7 matches because I stopped equipping them before they added the stats, except for a few hundred XP where I had to grind out the spider on the Double XP weekend

Best MG damage per match yet, 44.63 per match. Well done. But 44 damage per match is still sad for a weapon.

Even with our fellows doing 44 damage in a match (which is impressive with MGs), triple the MG damage and you are still at 132, not exactly earth shattering.

The MG simply isn't a weapon meant for damage output. Like the flamer. Just as light mechs are not meant for damage output and assaults are not meant for scouting and sneak caps.

Ok, with small lasers I have:

27 games played. 1731 fired. 1101 hit. 63.6% hit rate. 1833 damage. 67.88 damage per game.

Contrast to my MG stats (posted on page 1)

25.291 per match. Which is 0.0387 per round fired.

It isn't in MWO, but that's just because the MWO devs made them that way. In every other BattleTech incarnation, be it table-top or computer game, the MG is just a regular damage dealer. Sure, it's fairly low damage (on par with an AC/2 or a single SRM, or 2/3rds of a Small Laser), and it's really short-ranged, but it's a regular damage dealer like any other weapon.

I don't know about previus MW games. Following your line of thought i agree with you. Maybe they will add some other weapon later.
I'm not saying that i agree with them. I'd like to see more viable light/CDA builds.

Note: I had MGs in one group with medium lasers for convenience, so when I fired ML at target over 200m away MG shots were wasted, resulting in poor accuracy.



Damage per match: 29
Effective DPS: 0.51
Accurate DPS: 0.71
Accuracy: 71.52%

that was leveling up my spider so 4 machine guns 1340/49 /4 machine guns = 6.7 dmg on average a match for each machine gun.

compare that to small laser:

SMALL LASER 55 1,308 1,021 78.06% 04:26:15

1881 / 55 / 2 (I only used them in 2's for another build leveling up) = 17.8 dmg on average per match. This is for a weapon with very low hps and only .5 tons.
