Got a new firestarter and started re-outfitting the commandos with standard engines.
Got loadout ideas? Com 1-B, 1-D, and Firestarters A and H (Ember I'm not modifying it's already awesome).

Got some ideas:
Armor is not distributed correctly (I use almost max armor, so I just click the button for max, same weight).

COM-1B Gonna be hot as hell without Double Basics. You can also go for max engines and MLs+SSRM2 or SRM2.

COM-1D Can get real nasty if you land the SRMs, if that becomes annoying, switch to SSRM2s instead. 1 ton Free weight should be nice.

FS9-A It's been serving me well. I hated not using all 8 energy points on this chassis, so I decided to go crazy with it. Once it's fully elited I might switch what the weapons are, but this is literally what I'm running, down to the armor points.

FS9-H It's what I plan on running, the Torso lasers will be a separate group of course. I think 1 ton MG ammo might be enough.

Standard engine builds. :) They have to survive long enough to look good.
That said I've got some more efficient builds using standard engines already for the firestarters.

 Any standard engine ideas for the commandos? Minimum speed is in the 90s. I know they do really well because I've had some insane Death's Knell builds using Standard engines.

Sure.

COM-1B You can ditch the AMS, add in FF, and you can strap 2 more DHS in there. Or upgrade 2 MLs into 2MPLs.

COM-1D

This one can be changed a lot. You can get 2MLs and max engine, and still have some weight to throw around.

Can't condone using standards in a Commando (oh the humanity!) but I'd recommend trying out a NARC build. One of my favourite things to do in a 'mando, I run my 1B with an XL200, NARC with 2 tonnes of ammo and 3 ML and it's a blast. Even when I don't manage to drop with a LRM boat on my team you can still rack up damage with the ML and the NARC work well for keeping track of the enemy.

Here's a STD180 build of it:

I had him in the field while trying to rock some standard engine ballistic Catapults, and to no avail with the UACs. Jam rate is too frequent. Hitboxes made too big (ironic, considering I like the almost true to size barrels but if no one else has true to size barrels it becomes quite disadvantageous).

Just jump on the Zhizhu teamspeak in the evenings and see if we're on.

A NARC-commando. That's actually not a bad idea at all. Very light weapon. The 1-D is a piece of crap anyway so we'll slap the NARC in there and ensure there's an LRM squad handy. Combine with the Camera Commando 2D's ECM field and this ought to be quite nice.

Lordred's definitely going to be participating in stock-mech Monday. Expect footage and possibly screens of that.

There's only two reasons I say that.
Compared to the other variants, it 1) had everything on the chest or arm, limiting the kind of firepower that could be used.

2) It suffered the most from the original model design (which hasn't changed or been updated yet) where the shared tubes would cause some of your missiles to 'not exist'. Basically missiles inside of missiles when fired at the same time, causing a severe reduction (to complete negation) of firepower. This rarely happens anymore, but it was a huge "Okay, tossing this in the dump" impression-ruining factor back in very early open beta.

It's not 'as true', but it has ruined my impression of it for a long time.

And I just came to realize I can't get a NARC in it. >.<!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
False alarm. Thought NARC was 3 slots for second.

Tried that. Two LRM-5s, good ammo, large laser. Problem is I'd fire 10 LRMs. Then I'd be looked at and here come 40 or more missiles. :) Or a random light.

Smalls actually, but that's because I went for a particularly large engine to get in fast hit and get back out.

The founder's 4G is sporting LB-10x, 3 SPLs, 2 MGs. Without the LB that's a good 5.72 DPS and with a carefully aimed blow every 2.5 seconds or so, that's another 10 damage to armor and (with the + 15% crit damage to structure) 11.5 to 14.5 damage per LB-10x blast. It's actually significantly more effective than the can-opener. But what really rocks is running the two builds side by side.

Actually since I got an unusual number of likes for that build mention, I'm sharing Lordred's chase cam of the very first time I ran that 4G(F) build. (See through his commando's eyes! O_O )

And the score from that match, as it was both the best kill count and best damage I ever got from a Hunchback up til that day.

In the mean time, I'm looking forward to screenshots, chase cams, and maybe even a split cam of Stock Mech Monday.
Does anyone have the forum link for how to participate in it? I could use that. Thanks.
