I blame PGI's change in damage textures.
It used to show exposed internals. The bullet holes appears even from missiles and laser fire. A flamer could cover someone in bullet holes from head to toe in seconds for no damage at all.

It used to be so beautiful, scanning a Mech over.. looking for the melted edge of raw metal showing the sweet exposed internals.. and then opening fire on the weakened area, sparks of edge armor and internals flying through the air.

Look at them internals. It even looks like part of that hip/upper leg actuator is damaged.
Not only damaged, but the armor gaping in between to show the internals underneath.

To add, not only does it look like that..
But notice the leg is extra bent as back then inverse kinetics had the legs adjust to the terrain akin to Halo and Battlefield Bad Company 2.
Like this.
Where now... they just float with one leg in the air...
Which makes me sad, as even in Battlefield 3 and 4... they float with a leg in the air. The inverse kinetics were removed from those titles as well. So it made MWO have something great going for it...and then they took it out.

I saw that in a YouTube video, and that was why I decided to try this game.
Since I didn't see it while playing, I thought it was just because my computer wasn't fancy enough for this "free to play" game.
So, PGI actually dumbed down the graphics?
One more item for the ever-growing list of Things for PGI to Live Down.

In a word,... yes. This game was stunning in closed beta and I was much more happy with it, I was throwing money at PGI and loving it, buying every hero mech and everything... Now I kinda wish I could just get some of that money back... sell my account... it's sad because I purchased a new computer JUST to play MWO and now I'm lucky to log in once a week... Picked up war thunder and made afew new friends in the process, we shall see what star citizen brings but yeah when a game goes from looking stunning in closed beta to actually looking worse it's frustrating, esp since I played and remember this game back when it was in closed beta. That founders Catapult in Kons pic was most likely mine to, I used to play a lot more and always ran around in that thing. The founders mechs used to look stunning and they reskinned them and now they just look like ... MEH. I mean who makes a game looks LESS pretty over time??? I get it I get it, they want it to run on potato computers, and that's fair enough... make an HD version of the game that makes my system cry for momma and give me some real beautiful mechs again and eye candy alone would make me feel better about ever spending another dime in world of mechs.

Here's one for ya. Watch when the mech falls down. No, don't watch the mech. Watch the street.
Watch the street as the asphalt cracks under the mech.
Know what happens now?
Nothing.

They really need to bring back both of those features, as they add more immersion in the case of damaged internals, and more fluidity for movement over terrain in the case of the latter.
However, I understand why they lowered the graphics set ups. It was more taxing on low-end machines.

Technically they still can't. Just the consequences aren't as frequently or easily seen. Take this.
There's been a few similar incidents.
One involved a friendly light and my Catapult. During a jumping dodge of enemy fire, I accidentally landed next to him and crushed his leg.

Want to give Mathew an idea of how old the ghosting problem truly is? Above is a closed beta video in the June/July era of 2012 when River City first came out.
Look at the screenshot/thumbnail of the video.

Mathew has informed me he cannot duplicate the issue, and thus has passed it onto the QA team.

That's a depressing thought. It has happened on most computers that I've tried the game on. But without doing freeze frames/screenshots it's difficult if not nearly impossible to see. Least he's tried.
