The sad part is, I wish it were useful. The next step up is the AC2 at 6 tons! Machine guns could be a simple, simple fix of upping the damage and dropping the ammo.
I wish I could mount a few MG and actualy have a useful short-range secondary weapon, one with cool effects of armor shredding off other mechs, what a novel concept!
Please PGI, consider the community, I love giving you guys my money but MG need to be fixed. I don't think I will pay anymore until MG are fixed.

You seem to assume that all guns in this game need to be viable or useful. The fact of the matter is, that will never be the case. Example is the small laser, its a .5t gun that NO ONE uses, or should never use. Why? Not only is its pitiful in damage, but its range is too short to be used. The same thing applies to the MG, not only is it 90M but its damage is below that of the SL. Now you don't see anyone crying over the SL because there is nothing you can do to that gun without upping its bigger brothers.
Also another assumption is, and one that PGI dose know about, is that people want to boat them like you could in MW3 and 4. Well the Heavy MG is still a ways off, even a year or two off with time jumps, and PGI knows this, as such there is ROOM for that gun and others to come in and "grow" the game. Come that time for the heavy MG, you will then be able to use an MG that just might be useful.

The problem here is that the MG is even less useful than the small laser and the next weapon up from the MG weighs SIX TONS. The next weapon up from a small laser is a medium laser at ONE TON. There are no useful weapons for the lighter ballistic mechs. They don't have problems with people boating MLs or SRM6's. Why would they care if people are boating 4 weapons that would still be weaker than a ML?

The Small Laser was popular in the Closed Beta*, when we didn't have Double Heat Sinks.
Give us a Light mech with 8-12 energy slots, and you'll see the Small Laser a lot again.
*) Jenners with 6 Small Lasers and Hunchbacks with 8-9 Small Lasers. The HBK recieved the engine nerf to stop this "overpowered" build...

My Jenner F has 6 right now, it's higher DPS than 4 medium lasers, and the shorter duration focuses the damage better

ALL MECHS NEED TO BE VIABLE OR USEFUL.
There are at least two mechs, the 4 ballistic SDR and the similar CDA, which are effectively useless, entirely because there are no sane armaments available for their available tonnage.
If they don't buff the MG then they need to ADD NEW GUNS.

Those were some of my funnest times here actually. That build was a blast to play. I think Aegis Kleais had a big part in making that one popular....

5K was made to be anti infantry, something the game doesn't have....yet. Infantry might be in the PvE content where they are part of a bases defenses. Who knows, thats all part of CW and PGI is being tight lipped on the details of CW as they are still yet working on those very details.
As for the SL hunchback, it wasn't because of DHS, nor the eng nerf that made it not viable. It was people like me using 9 ML and still outrunning and outgunning it outside of its total range. SL max range=180 opti 90. ML max=540 opti=270, ya the difference is plain to see.
Range plays a VERY big part in this game, normal engagement ranges are 180-300m for a short range "bawl" which is where the medium laser shines the most. Maybe when we get ERSL that are half a ton we might see some show up on builds, but then why use an ERSL when the ERML is still yet better.

It's mech on mech all day every day. That means that every variant needs to be able to do something useful, rather than being the variant, in the case of the spider, that most inspires people to convert unused xp to gxp so they can level it without playing it.

If a weapon system is useless, it shouldn't be in the game at all. All of these weapons were useful in TT and they should be useful here. If I had a lot of extra energy hardpoints, small alser could be used as it has 80% of the DPS of ML and half the weight - it is one of the most weight-efficient weapon systems in the game. Mechs such as the Nova could use builds such as 2xCERPPC + 8xCERSLAS just fine.
I really don't understand people like you who do not want weapon balance? Do you want mech building to be a one-track adventure with only a few viable alternatives? Are you a troll or do you actually want the game to fail?
