2 DPS is hardly "more than any other weapon" - in fact, it's decidedly middle-of-the-road.

You miss my point, MG and LB 10-X are doing crits which can destroy more rapidly than some other weapon.

That 2 DPS is the average damage to Internal Structure for a MG that's critting at its normal rate.

Furthermore, crits only destroy internal components, not 'mechs (unless you count the off-chance of triggering an ammo explosion, which is a really low chance).

So no, I'm not missing your point; it's just that your point is wrong.

PGI should have consulted the MW3 and MW4 Devs to make an MG destroy armor/internals equally.

It had 20 armor so I used the LPL to do 21.2 dmg and remove armor, then demonstrated what MGs can do. Simple as that.

I invite anyone to take a drive in Testing Grounds, it helps master Mechs, Weapons, etc. It would be even better if we could drop a Mech of our choice with attributes we find on playfield, but it's a start.

Unless your padding your K/D ratio there is no better practice then a real match. As well it doesn't take into account any of your mech efficiencies once unlocked so its not a great testing ground.... not sure what happened there. o.O

If any locust pilot wants to jump in here and tell us how amazing the 4 MG Locust is doing it would be great!! :P

Yes! I've made one on Smurfy MechLab (build must be similar to many) but can't test it as I don't have a free bay and since we still cannot buy empty Mech frame I don't really want to sell one I own as we only get back 1/6 from purshase value.

It has a MPL so if we consider many players usually go for no more than 20-24 armor on back torso for an Atlas, this would mean 14.4 seconds of precise firing to remove armor on a fresh Atlas. The LCT being fast, it should not be a problem to stay in the back of a slow Atlas with no ennemy around.

Yep, players need to understand how they work and how to use those.

Here's how 2 MG's work in a previous Mech Warrior game, it did what was suppose to do - plain and simple, damaged armor.

or mw4

All those games had an MG that was a fast cool down, burst of bullets.

Therefore I want an MG that can damage armor effectively just as any direct fire weapon can in Battle Tech.

*golf clap*

and? Seems of late it is your way or the highway. MGs in previous MW titles were also amongst the most abused and boated of weapons. Yeah, that'd be great to bring back too.

IMO, while not perfect, PGI's idea to give different weapon types differing damage mechanics and roles to define them is one of the best things they have done. I'm fine with them as is, and mount them in many of my mechs because they are effective.

Locust pilot here, mgs are great, not ever a 1s burst, more a run by, and boom, dead shadowhawk, engine destroyed. Of course all its armour was gone but the CT internal was still in good nick.

Same here... I'm having a lot of fun with my CDA-3C.

Geesh, those 2 video posted by General Taskeen are horrible! I mean both games look awful.

Some people can't let go of the past. I call it the Camelot Syndrome, where everything before takes on this mythical glow of perfection, rose color glasses that blind one to the faults and flaws that were really there. Sadly, it's never really the case.

Next, the person usually starts sitting on rocking chairs on their porch, yelling at kids to get off the their lawn.

......... actually..... doesn't sound too different than some of these posts on the Forums. :)

I would love the MW3 MG sounds in MWO however, but yeah it would be hell if lights could boat those things. Actually if I recall correctly, the strongest ( read most competitive ) mechs in MW3 were lights and meds boating small lasers or MGs... it's been a while

I have noticed that if you are near shutdown on the heat scale firing your MGs doesn't allow you to cool down.

The key to making the machine gun more effective is in the Ammunition. This is an extract which discusses a new type of ammo used by the Germans against Tanks during WW1:
K Bullets

Although the tanks were a horror to deal with, the German generals could see they had many weaknesses. The production of armor-piercing bullets, called K bullets, was stepped up. These bullets, with a hardened steel core, had been specifically designed for use used against sniper shields, and were as effective as reversed bullets over a greater distance-- up to about 100 yards. It was generally thought, by the powers-that-be at least, that anti-tank weapons were all that were needed to defeat or at least minimize the Allied tank threat.
The problem with both types of ammunition was that they put a strain on the rifles, due to the extra charge and the slug configuration the Mauser rifle was not designed for. As a result, the rifles sometimes jammed, or worse, burst, injuring or killing the firer or those around him. Still, when faced with either the threat of an approaching tank or a possible malfunction, chance favored the bullets. Otherwise, artillery, mortars and grenades remained the best defense against tanks.

As you can see, they weren't without flaws, but they were a start.

I believe this is the direction that machine guns should take in MWO. produce two types of Bullet and charge more C-Bills for the AP version. Alternatively, make them a MC purchase only. The AP version should have more DPS to make it worth the cost.

Absolutely not, worst idea ever. Go stand in the corner and put the doofus cap on. If there's one thing people loath with World of Tanks, it's Gold Ammo; we don't need that {Scrap} around here.

The MG needs a small buff - or rather that last nerf it got wasn't necessary - but not gold ammo.
