Well, I have been a console gamer for what feels like an eternity now, and I have recently decided to get into PC gaming. I have been playing MWO on my brother's PC for a bit on my own profile, and I have fallen in love with this game. I am now wanting to get a good gaming PC, but I do not know enough about them to really pick out a good one. I figured someone on here would know more, so I am going to post a link to the PC, and if anyone could give me any insight to whether or not it is a good one, I would highly appreciate it.

http://www.bestbuy.c...4&skuId=6877744

I really just want it to run MWO. Like I said I am not really into PC gaming, so it would really be the only game I run on it. I do not need it for normal PC use, I have my tablet for that. So just for MWO would this be a good one to pick?

It's on par with what I have and I play at max settings in 720p windowed mode. I get roughly 60 fps, so it'll work. Honestly I cannot knock Alienware. I know a lot of people don't like them because they're a little pricey but they come with a pretty good warranty and help department; and if you're somebody know doesn't know a lot about computers it's a good thing to have access to.

The GT640 could be a GF116 or a GK107. The GK line is roughly twice the horsepower of the GF line, so it depends on the innards really. NVIDIA really dropped the ball on their naming this time.

As a former NVIDIA employee, I have to say that the GK107 is a pretty damn good card, but the GK104 is head and shoulders above it. If the OP can get his/her hands on a GT660 s/he'll be really happy.

Good deal, thank you both for the quick replies. I have a friend of mine who has an Alienware, and he seems to like it. I was really curious about the slim PC thing. I did not even know that they made slim PC's. It goes to show how out of the loop I have been when it comes to PC gaming...lol. I will take both replies into consideration, but at the same time, if anyone has any recommendations on a good gaming rig that will run MWO well around the $1000 range, I would be greatly appreciateive.

Do you know how to build your own? You can get a lot better if your willing to assemble it yourself. I don't like the slim case, I think it would be prone to overheating.

Not only that, exchanging parts would probably be very limited. The setup sucks anyways, especially for that many monies.
I agree that he should just order the parts for a decent setup and assemble them himself. Whoever can put a few lego parts together can also assemble a PC.

From www.ibuypower.com

Bought it 3 years ago. It's still doing max quality on every game I've had except the latest Tomb Raider, I went with high settings on there instead to have a frame rate I could record with.

My game looked like this in January.
I'm on the left with max settings. Lordred (the screenshot guy who takes my pics) is on the right with graphics card level tweaks. This is several patches back.

This is what it looks like now.

It'll play MWO just fine at most resolutions, but you're going to end up overpaying. If you've got cash to burn and really don't want to deal with assembling your own hardware, I don't see why this wouldn't be up your alley. Personally, I would stay away from prebuilts and just put together my own computer for far less money, but I understand not everyone cares for that. Be forewarned however, Best Buy and Alienware will both take a healthy 'fee' for doing business if you go the prebuilt route, and you might have problems in the future with upgrading.

Thank you all for the overwhelming amount of help. I have decided to just go ahead and build my own. It is something I have always wanted to do, and I guess this will be a good opportunity to do so. If anyone has any tips or tricks, on building my own PC please feel free to share. I know a decent amount about PC's, but have never built one, so any tips would be helpful.

I was going to recommend ibuypower.com, but it looks like someone beat me to it. I personally prefer to buy parts a la carte and assemble my own machines, but for those that are new to this sort of thing ibuypower is a great place to start. I just tossed this together for you. Might be useful as a starting point.

Thank you very much. I have had my friends split between ibuypower.com and newegg.com. Is there any difference one way or another between them.

That is a very good starting point. Thank you for taking your time to do that for me.

Ibuypower can build the computer to your specs from the options available first and send it to you. It is one company.

Newegg has many merchants that it sells for, hence the varying deals. NewEgg guarantees the merchants but different ones have different policies. Some do shipping free, others charge extra. Usually it sells all the parts you need which may be cheaper than having it pre-built for you by ibuypower. I believe you can buy whole computers from it already built, but I do not believe you can customize them or select from options.

I know when I first discovered newegg.com, I am pretty sure you could choose from a list of parts and stuff. Now that it has been around for a few years, it seems to have changed. Ibuypower.com definitely seems like the site to go with.

What I did was build your pc the way you want it on a site like Ibuypower or alien, then go to newegg and buy all the parts. Usually saved $300-$500 for putting it together myself.
