thanks a ton guys.. so much useful info in here. I hope others are seeing the great info too!

A side note.. C-bills. I have noticed a lot of the upgrades people are posting, many cost more than the mech did. So for the time being i am just adding mechs to my bays, to try different styles. I think later when i learn more i will upgrade more.

I must say, that AC 20 version seams to really **** people off. I swear as soon as i land a few shots i got a whole lance on me before i know it. the 4 ML/2 srm 6 version did not get people pissed off half as much! I have also noticed a lot of my deaths come from someone shooting me in my back.

This thread will really come in handy when i come back to hunchbacks and start tweaking them.. (need a break, been playing nothing but HBK's for 4 days) Now i'm talking a break and trying some dragon heavies. I really like having both long+short range, i don't feel useless when half the match is sniping. havent found a combo that has both on the HBK, but perhaps that is by design.

Maybe i would enjoy a gauss HBK.. i suppose something to try when i earn those c-bills

Don't forget that you really only have to buy an engine or weapon ONCE, you can always take it out and use it on another mech without cost or penalty.

thank you i did not know that.. Perhaps it is time to invest in it.. I am beginning to wonder if a HBK with a 200 engine is useless..:)

my 260 std engine gets passed around ..well through anything that can use one! I now actually have 2 or 3 of them just soI can drop another hunchie if I die early.

Useless? No. But difficult to handle. It needs the firepower to make up for the lack of speed, otherwise it would be useless.

Not entirely useless, but very difficult to play. If you lack speed, you have to rely on armor for survivability, and a 50t medium simply can't pack a whole lot of armor.

I spent the weekend playing with the HBK's and upgrading them all to use a 250 std engine. I went with that cause i thought the 1 ton less would be more flexible.

HBK-G version, i needed to get everything to squeeze the 250 into, heatsinks, frame, and fiber armor, to run ac20 w4tons, 2 ML

HBK-4P, heat sinks, frame, 2 ERLL, 4 ML, 2 SML, 4 double heatsinks. Was thinking about trying medium pulse lazers, perhaps one large in my head, even small pulse was intriging.. Not really sure how all the lasers work in terms of damages. Small are definatly short range but something to play with down the road.

HBK-4sp 4 double heatsinks, 4 ML, 2 SRM 6+artemis 3/tons ammo. I can add FF- armor, drop one ton of ammo and add a Medium pulse to my head.. this ride gets hot as is so not sure it is worth it.. pehaps the better idea is to get the armor and buy a 260 engine for this one.. the artemis made this mech come to life for me.. SRM's are working tons better.

I think i am getting the hang of these mechs more, but still having issues with getting killed by rear shots.. (aka pilot error) and i think i need to work on my aim a bit more.. learning curve is pretty high in this game...

this thread helped me build these mechs.. so thanks a bunch..

There you go. Energy is underneath ballistic.
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...eapon_ballistic

Essentially remember this rule. SL and SPL is 3, ML is 5, MPL is 6, LL and ER LL is 9, LPL, PPC, and ER PPC are 10.

What varies in the ones that do identical damage is their ranges, heat, and time required to keep them on target.

Rear shots happen; when you are too focused on an enemy you open yourself to being attacked from behind. You also want to try to avoid having to run from any enemy whenever possible. Some people raise their rear armor if they frequently get attacked from behind.

My Jagermech used to use almost all of the armor on the front, and only 1 armor on the back. Same as my Awesomes. I died a lot. But then I realized something. Unlike an Awesome, people try to rush Jagermechs. Also my jagermech is slow to turn and twist. So I beefed up the rear armor to about 1/2 the front armor, and I found myself surviving again.

Good luck.

after playing hunchbacks for over a month, I think i am improving, though Low FPS on some maps defiantly doesn't help my aim... But at times i show glimmers of hope. So far my best mech is the 4sp.... I'm not sure why, But with SRMS i do the best. next up is my AC-20, which surprisingly i have the best damage... though perhaps not that surprising I do have more trouble with this mech, as i think this mech people tend to target me more often so i have a lower ratio.. My Laser HBK, is defiantly my worst, even though my aim with medium lasers is over 80% hit ratio.. i have the worst time trying to get kills in this. Odd how the same mech can play vastly different, which has led me to a new thought..

Has anyone every tried a Gauss rifle on a HBK? I have the AC-20 version, which i think it should fit, though i would need to buy it as i don't have one. But i could also use it on my Dragon i bought too after liking the trial mech so much. I just feel so useless at times when it is all about sniping, or some maps that it is very hard to get close with to start brawling..

anyone remember mech commander? in the first one, i think the 3rd mission, had this really cool medium mech with a gauss that if you salvaged it helped a ton.. I sorta want to recreate that feel.

thoughts?

HBK4P is alot of fun. but yea protecting that hunch takes some serious awareness. i use a centurion mentality, let that left arm take the beating, play lots of peekaboo, movin around alot, being quick. they're fun.

When you learn to pop in and out of cover and use your speed, the 4G is awesome.
I have on average a 2,0 kill/death ratio, but with my 4G I have 3,14.
It's one of my favourite mechs.

Here's the build.

And keep in mind that in stock configuration, all mechs suck balls.

With hunchie's if you aren't running std260s you are doing it wrong...

I got all 5 variants to master and it is a very enjoyable mech to pilot!
