The ER Large isn't really usable in terms of the heat generation (9.5pts of heat). It sits exactly in between PPCs and ERPPCs comparatively heatwise.

Although the PPC/ERPPC requires 2 more tons, the damage dealt is the same as the large laser. However, the dynamics between dealing instant damage at longer ranges is more viable with a PPC. If you were being targeted with the ER Large Lasers for the entire duration, you are not doing your job getting as much cover as those ranges as you can... most players can get the cover for the occasional PPC/gauss blast, but it's very tough for the ER Large to be effective at those same ranges, especially with the heat generated by them.

The current revision of the PPC (8 pts of heat) does a lot more damage overall than the ER Large... trading 2 tons is for the PPC is easily more viable option. Large Lasers are popular.. ER Larges are not.

My suggestion is to reduce to heat generation for the ER Large to 9, and optimally something close to 8.5. The PPC IMO has replaced the ER Large, primarily because the heat reduction to the PPC made it a lot more viable than the ER Large... even if you spent the two extra tons for 2 DHS. Heck, it's easier to go regular LL.. why get the extra heat penalty?

Between the PPC and ERPPC, at lease there's a compelling reason to go one or the other (heat generation vs min range penalty). You don't have any such benefits for the ER Large other than overheating much faster than the PPC user.

i think the ERLL is pretty much fine, but a shorter laser burn time would help to make that range count more. from 1.0 to .75 or something

I'm kinda convinced at this point that they won't change that, since the LL is the same as the ERLL, just different heat and distance.

dropping the heat to 8.5-9 from 9.5 would make it a lot more useful.

Overall, this is what I would with all lasers now, and future lasers coming out:

Small Laser > -0.5 heat (to 1.5)
Small Pulse Laser > +1.0 damage (to 4.0) / -1.0 heat (to 2.0)
ER Small Laser > +60m (to 150m) / +0.5 heat (to 2.5)

Medium Laser > No Change
Medium Pulse Laser > -0.25s duration (to 0.5)
ER Medium Laser > -0.25 duration (to 0.75) / +180m (to 450m) / +1.5 heat (to 5.5)

Large Laser > No Change
Large Pulse Laser > -0.25 duration (to 0.5) / +0.7 heat (to 8.0)
ER Large Laser > -0.25 duration (to 0.75) / -0.5 heat (to 9.0)

Leave them alone. They already reduced the heat on them once (and they were fine at the higher amount). I use them quite a bit. Leave them alone.

I agree, generally.

The Small Laser, Small Pulse Laser, and ER Large Laser is a bit off on heat. But everything else is almost right.

They do the balancing of energy weapons only with heat.
Look the medium laser does 4 heat.
Means 2 medium laser does 1dmg over a large laser for 1 heat more. 2 Medium Laser will deal maybe till 300-350m dmg more dmg as the large laser.
The moment the ER-Large Laser becomes better as the Large Laser is beyond 450m.

If the heat increase is worth the 200m with more damage is questionable.

The burn time hurts he ER large more than the heat does. Its usually just not worth it to USE the range when you have dodging (or worse poptarting) targets.

The only reason why I'd think they won't lower the burn time is that it would probably infringe on some future version of an ER Large Pulse Laser.

Maybe they are ballanced... it's such an interesting option. For example when i'm running my 4SP i miss having an extra range.
I have a Heat Efficiency of 1.34 with 4 medium lasers. I'm thinking about switching from 4 medium to 2 medium + 1 ER. That's only 1.5 extra heat. Playing with smurfy that's 6% less HE. I can pay that for an extra 540m optimum range.

WOW that would be more heat than our actual ER PPC ^_^ Holy Heat Sinks
