PGI wants mercs to prove some level of commitment. How about having to buy a dropship to start a merc corp? Depending on the size of drop ship, you can bring X mechs to battle.
Examples (taken from sarna.net):

Leopard class, cost: ? (perhaps 100 million C-bills?)
4 mechs (congrats, you can form a 4 man team)

Union class, cost: 160 million C-bills
12 mechs (way to go, 12x12 is open to you!)

Overlord class, cost: ??? (perhaps 480 million C-bills)
36 mechs (rock on - time for 12x12 matches with 2 spare mechs per pilot!)

Btw, allegedly it costs 150,000 C-bills to rent a Union class dropship...

$$$ commitment. That is how they make money. $$$ to form a merc group makes sense. Extra rewards for premium accounts makes sense. No votes for the poll, doesn't compute.

I'm seeing dropship customization... Adding weapons to it. Call in air support from it once you unlock the guns/fighters to do so. Add a new salvage truck and hire some salvage crews to increase your merc corps salvage bonus for a few MC... I can see this work.
