Since we hath no counter, only way to measure the population size is, in my opinion, whether or not they are offering substantial sale prices.

If and when the shop prices start dropping like a rock, I think you can be pretty certain things are looking grim.

So, do you think that is/has happened?

Do you think this is even an accurate form of measurement?

There is a counter for the number of forum members. I took a pic last Friday. The number of new account is going up. The community is growing.

Being serious - if anything it's an indicator of the opposite. I would argue that the more sales they run the better they're doing as it's an indication of a shift from small volume to large volume sales figures.

Considering last night for nearly three hours the only 8 man teams online were my team and another Templar team, I'd say at the very least a great many people have stopped playing, hopefully not indefinitely.

when they go P2W or P2P is when we know they are desperate.

on april 6, 2013, there was 458,848 Total members. Today there is 460,480. 1632 new members in less then a week. I am not sure they did anything special this week. Now think about it in a different way. If pgi does work out a deal with steam and 1% of steams people sign up for MWO then the number of total members will double.

It's hard to gather friends a game they've never heard of. Especially, with the other dissappointing games these days. LET ALONE try them to join your fraction. People are suspicious or should be suspicious by nature. A lot of people see joining a faction as a permanent endeavor. Regardless, friends want to play together.

Now, imagine that you finally, got most of your friends to play the game.
Now organize a consistent playing schedule.

It doesn't happen...why? because people have jobs. The Average Mechwarrior fan is working age, or at least college age. Lining up schedules is too tough.
As a consequence 8mans don't really work out.

What? When did they announce this business plan?

If and when the prices start to drop, I will know PGI is listening to the community.

I see a lot of the same people now in repeat games (either on my side or enemies) which tells me player pool is much reduced from when I joined in Open Beta release.Homers may be reluctant to see this though :P

No, it's more of a case of your ELO. You've finally, stablized your ELO rating, which is unknown to you. However, your Actual ELO rating is nerfed due to the PUGS/solo drop playing you do. :P

You are plainly wrong, they are hiring a lot.... and sales are goods.

There is absolutely zero chance that PGI will shut this thing down before launching the Clans. Everything else about this game has been beta testing for rolling out those vatborn lunatics, and taking all the money in the Inner Sphere.

I know of 3 leagues/tournaments running 8-player teams all nights of the week, so your anecdotal evidence runs contrary to mine.

To be fair, that's only evidence that people aren't playing the (fairly crappy imho) 8-man game. (ETA at least for the three hours in question... are you in a weird time zone?)

To be fair, that's how Elo matchmaking is likely going to function in a game with < 20000 online, so that's probably just evidence of that.

Okay, I hate to do this but this is the same false argument that Mr. Moore of EA makes constantly with Origin. Just because you have X accounts does not mean you have X amount of active users.

When are you going to tell your boss you're happy to do your job but get paid a $1.75 less an hour?
