I was just in a match where an Atlas and I (in a Cat C1) were the last two on our team. There were two remaining 'enemies' as well, but they are irrelevant to the story.

We could win this, but we're down on cap points and they're going fast, so we're headed for the nearest point. We get there and after a few moments, the Atlas opens up on me.

I turn to face him, and he shoots me again, clearing away any doubt that this was an accident. So, a brief fight ensues and I end up taking him out with an alpha strike to his cockpit.

This has now happened to me twice in the last few days. Both times unprovoked as far as I know.

Is this becoming more common, or am I just "lucky"?

I am so POed right now I can barely type. And now I'm the 'jerk' with two TKs on his record precisely because it makes me so mad that I fight back instead of just accepting getting killed by a 'teammate' or quitting the match...

I just don't get it.

What time zone are you in? Antisocial play seems more prevalent on one particular continent in my experience.

That is weird. I was going to say it is possible he had the "no friend or foe ID" bug, but given your gone through nearly an entire match with no sign that as the case I guess it's doubtful.

That bug is really devastating though. I nearly killed a teammate yesterday due to it. Was testing a new Phract build last night and heading out on Alpine. Though I was fairly well out from of our team as its a faster build and had a Cicada round a corner in front of me and head straight at me. Didn't even register in my mind that there were no ID triangles on it. Was just keyed up and unloaded. Took me several shots to realize he wasn't returning fire and them saw my team screaming in chat. I felt horrible. Much credit to the Cicada for not firing back. Can't remember the name or I'd apologize again. Felt so bad I lost focus and was killed pretty quick. That bug needs a fix ASAP.

Anyhow. Luckily I've not seen a big uptick in intentional TKs but accidental, yeah.

In general I only recognize some situations where some PUGs didn't watch their fire and hit me.
Not really by accident but maybe by stupidity.
I also heard of a bug that fires your guns when you group them. (Traininggrounds *cough*)

I can't keep a Rear CT for the efforts of PUGs. I don't know when the last match I had where I wasn't red in be back before we even engaged with the enemy.

That said, the HUD bug is devastating. I've had it myself several times and actually do own a TK because of it. A Cicada misfired on me several time and I figured he was an enemy. I couldn't tell and no one was answering me in chat, so I flattened him. TK. -100k C-Bills and -XP. It was not fun.

THat match I was missing both my Minimap, my ability to target and the ability to Q mechs to check for allegiance. I can't say it's gotten better... at least 2 people on every team I play on has some sort of HUD bug after the last patch.

I wish we had a log that showed us how much damage recieved was from "friendly" fire.
But having someone purposefully trying to TK me, has only happened to me once, in many many matches.

Seen\heard in chat it happening to others, but yeah, quite rare.

I think if that happens again, i'll just hit ESC-Quit match. Seriously not worth the anger \ hassle over it.

same here people just dont care about anybody around themselfs. And it is getting worst by every month. I tked some lights before which were trying to stand in front of me in middle of unloading ammo on enemy. But recently everybody is shooting thru everybody. Yesterday in jaggermech i was soo many times shot into my *** by large lasers from TEAMMATES chasing one light lol. That when true engagment started i got killed by 1st lrm voley becouse i had allready bloody red CT from friendlyfire. I mean people u really should look around urself and dont ******* shoot like monkeys on everything what moves.

Maybe having stats about how much Team damage u did on the end of match would help, or have it with penalty like u do 250dmg to teammates u got penaly like teamkill. I would love to see that so people ******* learn how to shot and not to stand 5 mechs in one spot and shoot thru each other -.-.

Ive noticed it happening more often, i think some of ot is attributed to the no hud and map bug, which i get more than not having a bug,
But alot of it is people getting greedy/stupid trying to get a kill. When im in the ylw im noticing my arms are getting shot off by my own team more then what the enemy does.

You can 'smell fake' all you like; it changes nothing.

I put my reticule on the Atlas' eyesocket and alpha'd him twice. 3 LL and 2 SRM6. And he'd been damaged already.

Of course the irony here is that you were the TK in the story. The TK will show on your account and when "HE" reports you, you will be the "bad" guy. I do not recommend returning fire. Simply take down their name and report them. Frontier justice actually undermines your credibility with the devs. The best course of action is to try and break contact, keep capping and playing as if they aren't there. I run FRAPS in the background for every drop and hit record whenever something suspicious, untoward or cool happens.

Eastern US. The match was literally minutes prior to my post, about 7 am US Eastern Time.

Yeah, i've experienced several times when i shooting someone on distance.. this dude don't have the IFF at his head. Im starting to wonder if he's friend or foe. But main problem is that, if i hesitate i may "die". So yes that is a issue that need to be adressed.

i have sometimes shot at powered down mechs and when it powered up it shows friendly but thats normal but i have no way to identify if he's our team or not. So i can't way when Community warfare comes, then i guess it would be easier to identify the mech by purely look at the mechs decals or colour.

I was in my spider mech one game. There was this guy that was in a mech that had 2 gausses and his or her name was in some weird none english type where it typed some messages in the ALL channel.

When suddenly that guy just short me dead right at the start from the rear and proceeded to shot at another Catapault, the fight ended briefly with that weird mech pilot moving off to be alone through the tunnels.

He or she was the last one alive but we lost the game as everyone else was committed at the battle some where else....

I of cos was just quiet and watched how this pilot would carry on with the whole game hehehe... curiosity got the better of me haha...

Anyways.... very interesting individual.... very interesting in deed... what goes on in their heads when they decided to pull the trigger....

There is surprisingly little intentional TKing in this game. Out of the approximately 4000 open beta matches I've played in MWO, I can count on 1 hand, with fingers to spare, the number of times it's happened to me. So that's 1 in 1000 at worst.

Now, I commonly run into folks that have the friend or foe bug, and that's very frustrating as well since it's just bad play to accidentally TK someone in this way. If you know you have the bug, when in doubt, don't shoot. Literally don't pull the tigger unless the target in doubt fires on you first. A good idea is to stick with friendly teammates and shoot at what they're shooting at.

I've seen both sides. a match earlier today, was capping the enemy base as a distraction, when a team mate ran up to help. He had no IFF, and proceeded to unload on me. Now as he was in a Spider, and I was in a CAT-C1 I wasnt to worried, just stared at him and asked what he was doing. He apologized, and mentioned his HUD bug.

...On the other hand, had a guy freak out that we had a hunchback on our team, and start attacking him, trying to destroy his hump. The hunchback, defended himself, and somehow defeated the guy in his Jaegermech. That was an amazing team(Amazing how we didn't get *****), and somehow we won at the end, 1v5, by resources. Alpine.
Also the same map I had the Golden Triangles of Nirvana enter my cockpit, and I teleported out of bounds...what

They should just make it like some FPS games with friendly fire do where if you shoot a teammate it does the damage to you instead. Still have to watch your fire around teammates, TKing problem solved.

The only time I ever see rampant TK's are on purpose, such as in League Matches when teams are not paired up against the right team, and we are forced to end the match asap so that we can hopefully get sync'd in the next game.

I have VERY rarely seen TK's outside of deliberate suicide TK's on 8 mans, and even then, its usually by accident.

I've not run into TKer's so much recently, but there was a time where I seemed to run into it on a regular basis, always from the same few people.

If someone starts TKing, get their name and report them to support@mwomercs.com. It may take a bit, but they will disappear.

As far as accidental TK's...I've seen this quite a bit. I've had a few times where a friendly light runs right in front of my Atlas just as I pull the trigger on my torso ballistic. I can't see them if they are that close, so there isn't anything I can do. I've also been the victim of idiots that seem to think that they can shoot through me, or idiots that cross my line of fire while I'm engaged with an enemy mech. I won't apologize for someone's stupidity any more than I'll ask for an apology for my own stupidity.

The worst is people firing blindly at a light mech engaged by friendly lights in the circle dance. Most of my damage as a light pilot seems to come from my own team mates any more.
