Welcome to life as a non-Catapult heavy :) (Seriously, though, the Jagermech does not have side torsos that are meaningfully more fragile than the ones on a Cataphract.)

The side torso hit-box's on the Jager are HUGE.

Whoever draws them seems to simply follow the outline of the mech with no regard for game-play or 'realism'. As a result, the large side shields, or elephant ears, on the Jager are included in the side torso hit-box's. This means they become a liability instead of increasing the mech's survivability - which is their whole point.

End result: the side torso's are too easy to hit. Couple this with the fact that most Jager builds require an XL engine and you get a mech that is more apt to blow up than the early Sherman's of WW2.

4 ac2, 300XL, double HS, Endo steel, FF armour, 10 tons ammo, armour maxed everywhere except legs and a mouse macro so they fire constantly :)

Sure. But arm-mounted big ballistics are insane, so it's pretty much worth it. Replace "arm-mounted big ballistics" with "jumpjets" and you also have the Cataphract in a nutshell.

Alternately, if you want to make those elephant ears work for you, you can run the 4xLL build.
