And what does this say to the rest of the people here who play MW:O? That PGI caters to a select few to create a bobblehead for one group of people instead of working on something else more important in the game that those hours could be devoted to something else we can all share in?

But this isn't the Word of Lowtax logo or something. It's either a Tetatae, which is a silly part of Battletech lore that goons just happened to latch onto, or just a bird, which is pretty common for a bobblehead in general. (Birds move their heads in funny ways.) Both of these things appeal to people who aren't goons, whether it be whimsical BT fans or people who are fond of birds. I look up in the "yes" votes and I see lots of people who aren't goons. Heck, I see lots of people who downright dislike goons!

People of all nations are eager for Tetatae bobbleheads. How can you deny them?

In any event, we must all submit to the obvious superiority of birds.

I don't get the goon hate. I really don't. I wonder how many people know where Goons came from, what the whole Lowtax thing is? I'm no Goon but the history of internet culture is actually pretty interesting and they've got their place in it.

Lowtax was a scrawny, bird-like little nerd (who you can see getting pummeled by Uwe Boll on youtube) who made a website called Something Awful in the glorious early days of the Interwebs when there were still underpaid minorities working hard, night and day laying all those series of tubes down. This was so long ago that you actually had to know what you were doing to find free **** and in fact pay sites were considered profitable. THAT is how long ago we're talking about.

Something Awful was unusual because it was a forum you had to pay $10 to join. This kept the few consistent trolls on the interweb at the time at bay (who remembers Mad Hatter?) and it started a lot of the internet etiquette you see today. It had some cool concepts. For example, before bitching about your problems you had to compare your situation to a Darfur war orphan, before you talked about yourself you had to post pictures of what you looked like. Simple stuff but it had a purpose. A lot of those folks cross pollenated with 4chan, Encyclopedia Dramatica (before either was as bad as they got) and a few other cool sites (Portal of Evil! Oh, how I miss thee...).

Some people blame them for 'ruining EVE Online' - which they didn't. All they did was take it to its inevitable conclusion. CCP created an environment that rewarded griefing and finding ways to avoid the otherwise stiff consequences it had. All the Goonswarm did was make it clear what that meant and CCP was happy to take their money and cater to them. They certainly pay for a lot of accounts, probably several.

Which brings us to MWO - Goons, as a given rule, pay. They expect to pay. They follow the rules wherever they're at. They get away with absolutely anything and everything that is not banned - because if you're not banning it you're saying it's perfectly legit. They were ironically griefing people in games before being ironic was cool just to point out that not only was there an easy method of griefing people but clearly the game developers had no issue with it - or they'd do something about it. They'll exploit whatever is exploitable (oh, exploitable!) because if the devs didn't want people to.... they'd fix it.

If they want a bird bobble and want to pay PGI for it that's awesome. If you think PGI wouldn't make 10 or 100x what it costs them to make in sales for it you're mistaken. Some will probably buy more than one. MWO is a F2P game - that means you need people to pay money so others don't have to. This is a group of people who will pay and pay repeatedly for a deco object so that nobody else has to pay for crap they do want.

Where is the problem with that? Goons are just a nerd sub-sect with their own little culture and etiquette - but they pay. End of the day that's exactly what you want. I don't get the issue here.

Here's my answer again. NO to the your birdie bobblehead.

Again, not picking on goons here. I'm just asking PGI to focus on fixing stuff or creating things that we can ALL enjoy, and not cater to a select few. And that's just MY opinion.

So..

A hula girl is fine.
Two mascots of other modern companies are fine.
Chinese zodiac, fine.
A Father-Christmas mech, totally fine.

Actual canonical species? Heeeeell no!

So yeah, fairly sure you object entirely because it's the Goons.

And for the record, I'm not, and I would.

The effect of the Goons as a 'culture' on Eve is massively overstated. The Goonswarm Federation is a bona-fide superpower in Null and no-one's ever claimed as big a scalp as they did when they first knocked over B.O.B (and won't until someone knocks over the Goons). But the hate is all 'because they're Goons'. They didn't bring the 'if it's permitted it's fair game' attitude to Eve, and whilst they occasionally pull off trolling/griefing on a massive scale they're also not the only ones who mess with markets etc. They're just probably the best in the game at it at the moment, and advertise it when they do.

Edit:

Almost forgot.

Pilots and soldiers throughout history love birds.

Page six? This will not do.

This is sort of a sidenote from bird bobbles, but it'd be neat to see more lore-derived cockpit items (or really, items in general) that aren't faction insignias. Even if it's just the peace sign with a different pendant it'd be neat to have a little variety. I realize it's low priority, but next time an artist is feeling under the weather or an intern is out of tasks, why not bang out a skull pendant, or a framed portrait of one of the developers? Maybe a thermos of mech-beer?

Birds can even sympathize with PGI's recent difficulties with balance.

If the bird has a top hat and monocle I'd consider it.

Man, we should have explicitly stated this before. I think we all just took it as a given.

It's important to remember that every bird contains the fury of a thousand lesser beings.

Now, I don't want to be threatening the staff of PGI here, but this owl? This owl is from Tatlayoko Lake, in BC. That's within migration distance of PGI's offices, as well as the homes and families of the staff.

I can't be responsible for the consequences, here. Just read what happened to this poor fellow.
