After the missile nerf I've been using less srm-based mechs and gone back to PPC again on my DRN-1C as a fast sniper. I was always under the impression that PPC are supposed to act like ballistics and score pinpoint damage, but quite often now I get hits where my dual PPCs make 2-3 torso sections or both legs take damage. Am I wrong when I thought PPC are not supposed to do splash damage?

Are Ppc Supposed To Be Pinpoint Or Have Splash Damage?

ppc's have magical fail registration
sometimes they'll hit the "wrong" body part
sometimes they'll do no damage at all
sometimes they'll pass through a mech and hit its rear from directly in front
i've seen mechs exchanging fire with ppc mechs and die when the ppc's cut through their weaker rear torso armor and core them. even though they were facing and shooting the mech that fired the ppcs.
i've seen ppc's fired at stationary atlases and hit all 3 torso sections even though the target was stationary and the shooter gave plenty of time for proper convergence
i've seen ppc's fired at stationary targets ~500m away and do no damage at all

I think they are supposed to do point damage. No splash.

PPCs are like that magic trick you see as a kid, they are more fun if you leave it as a mystery and just watch to see what happens

Pretty much, when the Stalker first came out I half wondered if peopel didn't cook up the 6 ppc builds just to ensure that at least a portion of the shots would register.
I've been the victim of the directional damage issue, I don't think it's limited to ppcs but it does seem to happen more often with them. Few things as irritating as dieing because the game registered damage to a part you were actively and effectively shielding.

So I guess PPC in reality stands for Pretty Please Connect?
I must say I find it really surprising how ballistics seem to work a lot more reliably, isn't the PPC supposed to just do the same thing with the same speed as an AC2?

PPC's do splash damage, but they have Hit Registry issues that make me want to cry.
Firing them in a Chain configuration yields more solid hits while firing multiple PPCs together tends to neglect one or more shots.
This is why I point and laugh at people that cry for a nerf, they don't understand how truly gimped PPCs are.
