Most mechs have true arms with actuators. This is supposed to beneficial as actuators eat up space quite a lot. But in almost every match those low hanging arms make some of your fire hit a hill or ridge in front of you. In order to fire with those arm mounted weapons you have to offer half of your mech as a target for the enemy. Meanwhile those mechs without actuators, like Jagermech, can easily shoot over ridges while most of the mech stays in cover.

A solution to this problem would be if we were able to straighten the arms when needed. Just like a human being can do. And this is how you shoot pistols, for example. You don't shoot from waist level as it makes no sense. There could be a control that switches the arms position from gorilla low hang guard to straight and back as needed.

you are correct but in the 3040s and later arms become less common as weapons are packed on to fight clan tech...you'll also notice that clan mechs almosr never have hands.
They also took out head mobility.
