My mech was killed recently by PPC's at about 40m. They didn't do a lot of damage to me but my CT was a darker shade of red already. I just want to know what the official word is so I can adjust any future strategies.

Thank you.

Damage reduces from 90m (100%) to 0m (0%) This means at 45m, PPCs are doing 5 points of damage.

could have been ER-ppc,s the way that the weapons of a enemy mech are on the HUD can be easily misread .

No they were definitely ppc's. I even talked to the other pilot about it.

I'm not sure that 5 damage model is correct either. We were within 90 meters for a good minute trading blows, and I was red ct before we started. He probably landed 10 -15 shots on my ct within 90m, but until the last one they didn't seem to be doing anything.

Is there a chance to crit inside 90m?

They still do damage as Syllogy pointed out, this is something you can test yourself super easy right now in the training grounds with the trial awesome.

As for your experience you probably where not staring at your armor diagram the entire fight as when you get in close it takes a decent amount of your concentration between keeping your cross hairs on target and target fixation

5 damage at 45m. Hit detection is wonky still though - you may appear to be hit when you in fact missed due to lag issues, and very close up arm mounted pic's sometimes have convergence issues causing them to fire off at weird angles.

Once host state rewinding goes in for ballistics the sketchy hit detection will be cleaned up, as it was for lasers.

Two fun facts for you...

1) PPC's do damage under 90m, just "reduced" damage. Nothing has been confirmed by the devs to how this mechanic works to the best of my knowledge altho the 90m = 100% to 0m = 0% theory makes sense to me. I just know it's possible to do damage under 90m as I have killed mechs with them many times.

2) PPC's are very unreliable when hitting smaller mechs due to both the hitbox issues and netcode. It used to be when your ret signaled a hit, you hit. That doesn't hold true any longer. Pick your shots wisely to not waste heat.

I was staring at the armor diagram as much as anything, as a good pilot is aware of all the information he can be aware of. The same reason I'm here asking about ppc's. But if you have tested it and found that they do still do some damage, then that is the answer I was looking for. Thank you.

Will the ballistics host state rewind affect ppc's?

Yes. Since PPCs don't qualify under Lasers or Missiles.

Actually, at least a couple of devs have confirmed that the PPC's damage decreases linearly from 90m to 0m.

Yes, the linear decrease of PPC's has been confirmed by the devs.

Thanks for that. I knew they did damage but wasn't sure if it was linear.
