I own a dell Xps, and I learned the hard way that a desktop is preferable to gaming.
however, since I'm in college, I feel irresponsible buying a new computer when parents are paying for me to be here.
So my question is 1. How can I minimize the occurrence of the Colorful prisms until they fix the patch
and 2 How do i optimize my graphics card to run a little smoother and cooler on MWO.
This card cooks on any game but especially MWO.
Card gt 525m
8 gb ram
intel i-7

About the best thing you can do is make sure you have the most recent drivers from www.nvidia.com and then tune the graphics settings accordingly. Turning shadows and other things off will increase performance and let it run a bit cooler.

The latest Nvidia drivers fixed the kaleidoscope problem, so get that if your laptop allows. For your card, you really only have two options (besides little things like V-sync, which I wouldn't recommend having on with your setup):
-underclock: go into whatever program you like and knock the card's clocks down 10% or so
-undervolt: If your card supports voltage changes, then you can undervolt the core a little in Sapphire Trixx or MSI Afterburner and it'll still stay stable at stock clocks if you don't go too far (5-10% is the range you'd be looking at)
Just how hot are you getting? Laptops always run a little warm; are the temperatures actually dangerous?
Neither of these will help you run smoother, by the way, especially underclocking (that'll just slow the game down). The only way to speed the game up is to reduce settings (except AA; post-AA won't hurt your fps); if you're as low as you can go, then you can reduce resolution, but otherwise, it's not going to run any faster until the game itself gets more optimized and/or DX11 is introduced.

The latest nvidia drivers should fix a bunch of the issues, just make sure you download the notebook version from their website. Your performance won't go up like catamount said. You could always try buying a cooling pad for your laptop
