I'd rather they just give us in-game voice so we don't need this at all.

What about a button that makes a pug team start caring about the fate of the single slow assault mech they all ran off and abandoned as soon as they made contact with the whole enemy team?

hey baby steps- before we would all run off abandoning the assault mech BEFORE contact was made with the enemy.

edit- changed they to we since i pug all the time and may have done this in the past a time or three while admitting to nothing.

I like this idea alot, mostly because I currently only have three ways to express my distress.

1. Tell my teammates (if any) on TS to come save my ***

2. Ran like a bat of hell through friendly lines and hope they shoot the bad guys.

3. Die

I feel this would broaden the pallet of options.

Great idea, needs to be moved or x-posted to the suggestions forum though.

It's a trap! This would add the goal of crippling an enemy mech to make it squawk, then ambushing its rescuers- I love it.

I can see it now. A Newb runs off by themselves, encounters 2 enemy scouts. Hits the SoS button. The rest of the Team goes to chat.

"HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Newbs!"

And simply carry on as usual. ;)

I think a better solution is have some pre-made team chat messages, or at least a chat that allows me to shoot and type at the same time. The current in game chat simply suck. Many time I'm trying to type a team chat to report enemy movement only to get jumped and can't shoot because I'm still in the chat box.

good idea, not to rain on your parade though but it seems that this might be abused by trolls and the like. if they could make it so that it could not be spammed or used to disadvantage your own team then im all for it too ;)

Implement something along those lines, but have it only be seen with someone with a command console. That way the commander needs to relay the information. Then possibly implement a flare system as a consumable, so if you wanted to mark contact or SOS you could pop a flare and everyone would see.

Oh, that could be useful too- the Atlas DDC turns it on at the start of the match, and everyone follows the beeping ball to combat. He reactivates every time someone looks like they're abandoning formation.

I like this idea, it would be helpful for players who aren't on teamspeak...and even in some cases would be good for teams using teamspeak to help keep comms from getting cluttered.

The Downside? When you are in a totally disorganized PUG with 8 people hitting the distress button all calling for help but not helping each other... but it's still a decent enough idea, lol

The developers should seriously consider adding the ability for players to send out a Distress Signal.
Basically, when you send out the signal, your position is pinged on the Battlegrid to alert your teammates of your immediate danger along with a distinctive audible sound. Your BattleMech will display "SOS" for easy identification. Don't worry; the distress signal can be cancelled at any time. This might help newer players that like to run off by themselves. After all, MWO is a team-based game. Thoughts/Opinions?

Oh great another button to press and to miss use, when all you really need is to be on TS or similar and call for help.

I like you, you have good ideas and are devious. It also sounds like you need a noob nabber leash or three.

The fun thing about a mechanic like this is that you can reappropriate it. Use it as intended you'll get help some of the time which is better than now in PUS drops. however it adds some dimensions, like the trap idea and the following the blinky light idea. How about somethign like this as well.

Split your force up (this will be necessary in 12v12) and move to flanking positons... right now short of TS there is no quick way to signal a push, however a quick sos button would allow long range signalling for a flank on the fly. No typing no fiddling with the battle map.

I'll pass

People already think when they see two mechs that "THE WHOLE TEAM" is after them. Or at point A when they are not. All the panicky people would be pinging help all the damn time.

Yet another reason to join Teamspeak........kids it's fairly simple to use and the best part is that 99.9% of the people you run into are cool and helpful.

But if you MUST pug maybe have a codeword agreed upon beforehand that prefixes the grid.

A distress signal will become a panic button and surely be misused and lead to epic amounts of greifing/trolling by the lowest common denominator.

Not a bad idea. Perhaps a variety of short commands much like WoT (affirmative, help, fallback.....) then combine the message with an audible ping along with a ping on the map. Would definitely improve the ability to work as a team.

Great idea, i'd like to see something like they used is Battlefield 2142, just hold a single key down and your given commands you can just click on, very quick, very effective for basic communication.
