Honestly people started using ppc's once the projectile speed was upped and you could actually hit things with them beyond 300 meters. Even after they added double heatsinks(true only in engine) the ppc's where still pretty crappy until they upped the projectiles speed and it was a pretty significant buff to it.

When the projectile speed was slower, all it meant was it required better aim to lead the targets. All your really saying is... PPCs were dumbed down so that anyone could use them.

Is this really something that needs to be addressed now?

Considering that heat is the center of all balance in this game... yes.

PPCs did suck. It was way back in closed beta before a lot of things happened. 6x PPC builds didn't happen until the Stalkers came out, and even then it wasn't until the heat reduction that you started to see more and more of them.

What made PPCs suck was a combination of very high heat (i think it was up near 13?) and very very slow speed of the PPC itself. When I say slow speed I mean looking at someone 700 meters away and they shoot a PPC at you, then you just step out of its way. They were by far the slowest ballistic type weapon in the game. Added to this combination was the fact that you only had three of four mechs that could use more then one PPC well (Mainly the Cats), and a single mech that could use 4x PPCs (Atlas RS).

So what has happened? PPCs got faster (much faster), PPCs got better on heat (stocks are now 7, ERs 9), more mechs can hold more of them (Awesomes, Stalkers, Atlas, Jagers, Catas, the rest), PPCs got a limited but handy ECM counter, and to top it all off they still do 10 damage.

All these reasons are why people are hating PPCs right now and will keep hating them until this game shuts down, hopefully years from now. PPCs are the top end of the energy weapons. Why would we not boat them? I mean really? Why not?

I dont hate PPCs. But I do think they have been made to be a little bit too good and a little too easy. The need to bring the skill bar back up a bit on PPC's Slow them back down a litte... slow the recyctime a tad, and raise the heat a smidge.

PPC heat reduced... you can fire more often... has nothing to do with the weapon? What? Really? Do you even read what you type before you hit submit?

I was referring to DHS and faster recycle times on all weapons.

PPCs were trash before the projectile velocity was increased so that they're remotely accurate.

There's nothing else to say to the OP aside from that. He misunderstood why they got better.

I know why they got better. You obviously do not. They were once only a weapon of choice for the highly skilled, and they were very effective in the hands of the highly skilled. But everyone wanted to be able to use them, so they dumbed the weapon down after all the whinging by no skill players.

They were not trash, they were simply beyond your ability to use effectively.

But the truth is, the PPC has always been a range weapon, and always done 10 damage.

People never liked the 90meter minimum range and I think thats the main reason why they thought it was garbage.

But now, with DHS, they use ERPPC instead and say the PPC is good now, when really it never changed.

I was using PPCs/ERPPC before DHS were added, and I did very well with them. I personally dont see any difference from then to now except you can shoot more often, which has nothing to do with the weapon itself.

Projectile travel speed increased greatly, that's when PPC's became ok.
