One thing I've been noticing with Night Vision is that when you are moving at Night w/ it on, its absolutely horrible for detecting movement (mechs). I just literally ran into 5 mechs with ECM and they were completely invisible at 400M using night vision.

If thermals actually worked like they did (past 1K), I would have at least had the opportunity to go the other way.

If I was a complete [Redacted] I would have deleted the River [Redacted] Night map long ago. I still get the urge sometimes.

I find the new night vision to be excellent, easy to see mechs, even easier to navigate a city. Only problem I have is that River City Night is so bright I don't even need to use night vision.

I don't know what you're talking about, because the new nightvision is EXCELLENT. I find myself using it more than Thermal these days.

Thermal is great for spotting a mech, but it can be difficult to precisely target the component you want to hit, especially if there are multiple mechs around. And in large brawls, it makes it difficult to distinguish friend from foe and messes with your depth perception, especially when ECM is involved.

And that's why I like the new night vision. It lets you see terrain better, and while enemy mechs stand out less from the background than in thermal, you still get better detail of enemy mechs, allowing you to shoot where you need to shoot more easily.

If you're one of the guys who cranks the brightness/gamma to be able to see better at night without vision modes, then yes, night vision will suck hard when you switch to it.

This.

Personally, I'm glad the the night and heat visions both have their niche - Night is easier to navigate, heat is easier to pick out mechs - and that neither is good at long range.

This makes Night maps actually tactically interesting, as it's quite difficult to accurately target at a distance. It helps make RCN a real brawling map, which penalizes pure-ranged sniper builds quite well.

The changes to NV and Thermal were, for the most part, good. While I do have some gripes about them, I do use both of them now. Before I only used NV if I accidentally pressed they key.

The only map I have real vision complaints about is Forest Colony. It's fine in the snow, but the non-snowy one is real difficult for me to play. My home office has many windows (you know, glass panes between the inside of my house and the outdoors) and I might as well just blow myself up when I drop that map during the day. Night vision makes it way too bright and heat vision is not that good on it because it's hard to see the terrain.

Just my $0.02 but I would like it if the lighting of Forest Colony were adjusted slightly.

Tin foil. It's not just for hats.

Try putting some on the windows. Not only will you get that dark cave look, but your neighbors will either think you're tweaking, or that your growing pot/making meth. Either way, win/win.

You can always turn up your gamma to blind yourself like the old night vision.

I really like the way they implemented the new Night Vision. The subtle fall off into darkness at 750m. The really cool depth of field effect and bokeh at your peripheral vision. The high resolution and detail doesn't obscure all the hard work they did on the maps.

Seriously, for a first pass this is excellent.

It's difficult for me to hate RCN and night vision, I just seem to do really good on RCN and I usually run with night vision 100% of the time on that map.

The new night vision is a significant improvement. The old one made me cry blood with its line laden over pixelated badness. I also like the new HV over the old tie dye business.
