The current weight class distribution has bad some balance on performing a matchmaking.
Therefore I suggest the following modifications.
  • Trip class: under 30 ton Flea, Commando, Spider
  • Light class: 35-40 ton Jenner, Raven, Cicada
  • Middle class: 45-60 ton Blackjack, Centurion, Hunchback, Trebuchet, Dragon
  • Heavy class: 65-80 ton Catapult, Jagermech, Cataphract, Orion, Awesome
  • Assault class: 85-100 ton Stalker, Highlander, Atlas

Commando 2Ds would rule Trip class the same way Raven 3Ls do now. 2Ds are better than all other Commandos, and are generally as useful or more useful for scouting, butt-shooting, and scout-on-scout dogfighting than any Spider.

Light class is still ruled by Raven 3Ls. There is little reason to run anything else in this class when you can run a 3L.

Medium class is weird. Dragons can run loadouts like Cents/Hunches/Trebs currently do, but can also run slightly lighter and faster versions of the LL-heavy or big-ballistic builds of heavies. I don't much like removing the Cicada from this class, because, while people are used to the 90-100ish kph Cent/Hunch/Treb brawlers, Cents and Trebs can run Cicada-like loadouts in certain variants. I think the 50-tonners resemble Cicadas too much and Dragons too little to make this trade logical.

At Heavy, Awesomes would benefit at the direct expense of Catapults. Instead of Stalkers doing everything an Awesome can, instead Awesomes would do everything a Catapult can. The end result is that the Heavy class still has three viable mechs, with the Awesome replacing the Catapult.

Assault obviously doesn't change.

I don't much like this proposed reshuffling. Trips and Lights are basically the same and still ruled by one good chassis, Medium is still a random catchall of dissimilar mechs, and at least one buffed chassis is buffed at the direct expense of a popular mech.

I assume the flea is the new flea not the actual flea from original TT. (ten ton training mech)
