  • Never shall thou useth the Flame or the Mg as it is a sin to waste thy tonnage and criticals.
  • Thou shalt take not lightly the reduction of armor upon thy legs, for thou shootest legs and others may do the same.
  • Not easily shall the installation of an XL engine be considered unless upon a long range mech or catapault.
  • If thou art below heat efficiency of 1.4 thou best have a damn good plan for heat management.
  • Take not all of one kind of weapon or restrict thyself only to short ranges, except for lasers boating lasers is okay if they are LL or you are fast.
  • Thou shalt go fast in all cases where fast is possible, in all cases where it is not, thou shalt make fast a relative term and then thou shalt go fast as well.

I think I only have two.

Thou shalt always max out armor.
Thou shalt not care about speed.
Thou shalt always consult the holy scripts of MWO:Mechlab and Mechromancer before thou maketh business decisions...eth.

Some may disagree with that second one, but one must understand that speed really isn't everything. One must recognize the power that can be brought by a slow to average moving mech. I'm perfectly fine cruising between 50 and 80 in my mechs. The enemy isn't going anywhere.

80 is a fine fine speed for assault mech. The enemy may not go anywhere but with high speed you can chose how to engage them. Attacking head on is not always the best option and what do you do in a slow mech if someone get into trouble 1k away from you?

I guess its different when premading but as a pubbie I think speed is key.

Armor point symmetry (left:right, not front:back)
Dual heat sinks
Lasers over PCCs except in rare circumstances (K2, 3D)
AC/20 is the only AC that really matters right now, else mount a Gauss or skip Ballistics entirely. AC/10 rarely. LBX-10 is simply not potent enough.
XL engine unless side torsos are exceptionally vulnerable or provides enough speed to make up for it (e.g., no XL in AWS except 9M or PB).

Personally i disagree with the it's different in a premade. I am 95% in a premade and speed is my lifeblood. Slow mechs and coordination is effective but for my money nothing beats being able to get out of trouble as quickly as you got into it.

Mostly I thinks it's personal preference and skill set.

If you premade you got people you know you can depend on. That is not how pubbie life is, you may need to change plans as needed. Especially when its like it was this weekend where you not only get people talking about cadet bonus on your team but also unbelievable bad premades.

For some reason all the touch-pad/joystick people plays on the weekend. Its a mystery.

Speed also makes the game more fun.

I think we can agree on this, but i do think it's not universal. I'm a twitchy easily distracted person. In a slow mech it's all i can do to grit my teeth and plod willing my mech to go faster just so i can shoot something.

This could be an interesting question about personality type and the type of mech you prefer to drive.

Or rather mobility makes the game more fun. You don't really feel the speed, even in scout mechs, but it sure changes the game.

Someone should make a poll about the speed preference.

I do not aim with my crosshairs; he who aims with his crosshairs has forgotten the face of his father. I aim with my circle.

I do not shoot with my keyboard; he who shoots with his keyboard has forgotten the face of his father.
I shoot with my mouse.

I do not kill with my guns, he who kills with his guns has forgotten the face of his father.
I kill with my lasers.

Thou shalt never equip SPLAS
Thou shalt question the need for NARC
Thou shalt use as many cirts as possible
Thou shalt consider d.p.s. over total damage
Thou shalt consider advice/ ideas given by VCRS & NGNG
Thou shalt see the funny side of the CTF-4x "Salad Cutter"
Thou shalt when in the mood HBK-4P 9x Flamers or 9x TAG
Thou shalt build and then build some more
Thou shalt buy fuzzy dice and spend MC on crap I don't need but really I do

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no light mech ('cept those blasted jumping spiders cuz they are annoying) , for my Stalker are with me; Your Large Lasers and Your SSRM2s, they comfort me.

Thee doth not haveth no SSRMs
Nay henceforth thine no Double AC20's
Pray thee ne'er behold no ER PPC / Gauss poptarts
Whence hither shan't no PPC boating, except on the Awesome 8Q, hallowed be
Forsooth quoth verily use all hardpoints visible on the model, lest ye die and the gnashing of teeth, Horatio.

Nothing in this thread so far has been Old English, or even Middle English.

Lasers go in the arms.
Ballistics and missiles go in the torso.
Heat efficiency of at least 1.25
Double heatsinks: yes.
Endo-steel: if it does not impede the heat sinks
Ferro-Fibrous: if you already have endo-steel and it still won't impede heat sinks. (Read: almost never)
If you have an empty hardpoint, there better be a good reason.
Think carefully before fitting an XL. How often do you get a side blown off compared to being cored?

This is my Hunchback. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

My Hunchback is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life.

My Hunchback, without me, is useless. Without my Hunchback, I am useless. I must fire my Hunch true. I must shoot straighter than my enemy who is trying to kill me. I must shoot him before he shoots me. I will...

My Hunchback and I know that what counts in this war is not the rounds we fire, the noise of our burst, or the smoke we make. We know that it is the hits that count. We will hit...

My Hunchback is human, even as I, because it is my life. Thus, I will learn it as a brother. I will learn its weaknesses, its strength, its parts, its accessories, its Cockpit and its Controls. I will keep my Hunchback clean and ready, even as I am clean and ready. We will become part of each other. We will...

Before Mead, I swear this creed. My Hunchback and I are the defenders of the FRR. We are the masters of our enemy. We are the saviors of my life.

So be it, until victory is Rasalhague's and there is no enemy, but peace!

You, good sir or madame, have just created the best post of these forums.
