I shall not create a build with a preventable weakness.

I shall not boat LRM's without at least 2 medium lasers.

I shall not equip SSRM's without ECM, TAG or a PPC.

I shall not go slower than 100Kph in a light mech just to squeeze a big weapon system in to it.

Neither shall I shave armor paper-thin just to add another ton of ammo.

I shall not equip an AC/5.

I shall not equip an MG just because I have a ballistic slot available.

I shall not equip single heat sinks even if double heat sinks take my efficiency over 1.6.

I shall never go into battle without at least 20 salvos of ammo for any weapon system.

I shall use a standard engine if at all reasonable.
I shall never make a heavy 'Mech that goes less that 64 kph. EVER.
I shall never put explosive ammo in thy 'Mechs legs or center torso.
I shall always us the maximum number of jump jets available to a variant.
I shall not indulge in optimized cheese builds.
I shall find builds that work for thine own purposes and not that of the masses.
I shall always use DHS on any class of 'Mech that is not an assault.
I shall never use Steak SRM 2s as a primary weapon system, using them as back up is acceptable.
I shall always endeavor to make my builds balanced and not biased toward any particular range bracket if reasonable.
I shall always max out armor first and adjust the amount down form there.
I shall never have less armor on my legs than is on my arms.
I shall always have some armor on my arms even if I have no weapons in them.
I shall remember to always have a minimum of a 3:1 ratio of frontal torso armor to rear torso armor with 2:1 preferable.
I shall never let a center torso or head energy hardpoint go unused for the sake of symmetry.

  • Speed is life
  • Thou shall never forget to gird thine self against the coming of the lights
  • Thou shalt not fotm, but to thine own self be true
  • If it be laser, then pulse whenever possible
  • The heaviest weapons shall be placed into the 2nd group. For they are flung at thine enemy by the use of thy middle finger.
  • Thou shall turn thy face away from the lasers of small
  • Thou shall also turn away from the long missile, for it be a capricious and faded mistress that distracts you from your troubles close at hand to your ultimate sorrow
  • The crits, do not waste them for they are gifts from a miserly god
And last
  • If thou be the last of thy kind astride the field of battle, thou shalt NOT seek to crawl into the shadows, nor lessen thy power. Yea thou shall stride forth proudly in the open under the sun to smite the enemy and steal their caps. For those that prosper at this toil at length shall drink the sweet grief tears of the others who have already passed over.

I use what others view as underpowered or underappreciated so that I can then steamroll them with it. See also Awesome and Dragon. (So far I have a 4+ KDR with both)
I will never use a Gauss Rifle and I will never boat.
(Also like to try different builds to explore them)

This is my Hunchback. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

My Hunchback is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life.

My Hunchback, without me, is useless. Without my Hunchback, I am useless. I must fire my Hunch true. I must shoot straighter than my enemy who is trying to kill me. I must shoot him before he shoots me. I will...

My Hunchback and I know that what counts in this war is not the rounds we fire, the noise of our burst, or the smoke we make. We know that it is the hits that count. We will hit...

My Hunchback is human, even as I, because it is my life. Thus, I will learn it as a brother. I will learn its weaknesses, its strength, its parts, its accessories, its Cockpit and its Controls. I will keep my Hunchback clean and ready, even as I am clean and ready. We will become part of each other. We will...

Before Mead, I swear this creed. My Hunchback and I are the defenders of the FRR. We are the masters of our enemy. We are the saviors of my life.

So be it, until victory is Rasalhague's and there is no enemy, but peace!

I thought that was the Rifleman's creed.

Thou shalt always equipeth multiple categories of weapon systems, with the exception of speedy laser-only builds.

Thou shalt always equipeth at least one backup laser, unless said laser is to be substituted for more dakka.

Thou shalt always pilot the Awesome and never the Stalker for sniper assaults, as the former is far sexier.

Thou shalt never use coolant.

All 'Mechs with XL engines must exceed 80 KPH. To break this law is to deserve to be converted to scrap.

What's great about this thread: despite all the opinions there has not yet been an argument, debate, trolling, flaming, disrespect, or any put-downs.
It's neat seeing who does what differently than everybody else! What makes your style of play your own.
And I'm glad to see people talking about it in a healthy manner :D

no LRMs except when PGI breaks them (artemis patch, jagermech patch)
0.0 free tons always, at most 2 free crits
3 weapon groups max

everything else depends on the specific mech build

If one or more balliſtic hardpoint is had upon thine battlemech, it ſhall be filled with the moſt ſizable balliſtic weapon mountable with at leaſt the ſtock rating in it's XL form. This maxim is primarily applicable to light battlemech's
Never uſe a MLAS when a MPLAS is available. EXCEPTION: If LAS are not your primary weapons, AND the extra tonnage is better applied towards a ſomething that is a faſcit of the battlemechs deſign (such as a larger engine. Or ammunition for AC's)
If jump jets can be had on a battlemech one or more ſhall be had on a battlemech.
ERPPCs are all range weapons, and can be added to any build with the tonnage.
Never uſe one large weapon when you can uſe multiple ſmaller verſions of that weapon. EXCEPTION: Autocannons.
(Because long s's TOTALLY make my post fit into the theme of this thread, right?)

EDIT: To anyone who saw this post before I fixed it, I am SO SORRY.
