Since the April 2nd patch, I've been having mega-terrible issues with rubber-banding. I would teleport up to 500m away (no exaggeration) in a random direction, and occasionally teleport up to 200m straight into the air and fall back down. These issues would sometimes fade in and out but would always show their ugly heads in every match.

My zoom and vision modes would either take up to 3 seconds to execute, or they wouldn't execute at all.

But the most annoying thing? My weapons would experience a fire delay of up to 8 seconds.

All of these issues together made me feel like the game was unplayable. However, after having a lightbulb moment and realizing that I may have developed a case of the derps, I did the following:

First, try running the game as an Administrator. (Right Click the patcher, choose Run as Administrator)

If that alone doesn't work, configure your router to allow your PC to be the Highest Priority User, and then run the game in Admin mode.

After 9 hours of testing, the game is running like a champ with no issues at all.

TL;DR Checklist:
  • After every patch, ensure that MWO is on the exception list of every Anti-Virus / Firewall program you run.
  • Manually Launch MWO in Admin Mode
  • If you continue to have problems, set your Router to accept your PC's data traffic at the Highest Priority.

Q: Why does this work?
A: Just a theory here: MWO needs permission from your computer to send packets to the server. There is something that is delaying those packets being sent and received(causing artificial lag). By running the game as an Administrator, you are effectively telling Windows that MWO's data traffic can always be trusted.

Also, by configuring your router to allow your PC to have the Highest Priority Traffic, all of the packets you send and receive will take priority over your wife/girlfriend/roommate/parents in the next room trying to watch NetFlix and Youtube.

There hasnt been any serious packet loss for an extended period of time but when there is it is intermittent atm. PGI has noted there are some issues but some of it is outside their span of control.

It does not hurt to take steps that may prevent additional issues.

Just do not tell them what you did :P

There has been some major internet disruptions and attacks the last 2 weeks. might not be all PGI's fault :P

No offense, but this sounds like cargo cult diagnostics. Improve some things here, click an option there, oh look the gods return to drop more boxes, it worked!

It's different for every manufacturer of router. For Linksys (mine) it's under the QoS options, I input my MAC Address and selected a priority for traffic.

All I can say is that I was having issues since the April 2nd patch. I made those 2 changes, and everything has been running as intended since.

Well, for what it's worth, I experienced the same issue you describe after the hotfix they applied soon after the patch (Apr. 3 or 4?). I stopped playing for a week. Tried again some time last week and everything has been running as intended since.

I think withdrawing yourself from the game fixes the servers.

Sorry, just joking. All in good fun.

Actually, here's a slightly more detailed version of what he might have done.

When he ran the program as an Administrator windows automatically granted that program all read/write permissions necessary to play the game, which by default it should already have if you have UAC disabled (if you inquire about that later I might be able to explain how to disable it... very simple). As for the router he's not talking about making it a priority machine, what he is saying is that he enabled port forwarding on his router to prevent the internal firewall from further filtering that traffic and denying what it believes to be corrupt packets based on certain criteria (most retail routers sold now act as retail grade firewalls; not the best, but does a better job than Windows Firewall). So he basically modified his Routers ACL, blew a hole in his first line of defense, and gave a program Administrative access to his system. :D

There's a better way around this that most do not think of, but I'm sure out networking experts here can figure that out.

Have been running that way from the start so the rubberbanding is NOT tied to permissions, I'm the only one using the IP, it's not ping, no changes made to my machine nor a personal firewall issue. This started on April 2 for many of us, not before (at least for me) and has plagued us since so I believe strongly that it's due to a change made by PGI in that patch. Now I've noticed that it only seems to occur for me when I see others with high ping (I run an almost constant 90 and always have) suggesting that the issue may be tied to the lag compensation (ie..doesn't appear to be transparent to me).

I have been having the same issues. Cant lock on or zoom, until about 10 seconds after I try to do it, and on my screen I see my shots hitting the enemy, then I'll die without seeing anyone touch me and ill have no damage done on my stats.. if this has been a problem since april 2, why hasn't it been fixed already. Pretty dumb.

Same issue here. Just got out of a match where it claimed I was out of bounds, but clearly was not...then it promptly blew me up. Then went to spectate and got this gem:

All after the patch...so yeah I have to think something is up. On the other hand that mech armor profile in the lower left looks pretty cool ha.

I am having the same issue for the first time ever since updating to the latest patch. I already run my MWO as an admin and this is the only game that I am having an issue in. I am currently re-installing clean to see if that fixes it, I will update this thread when I am done with the results.

EDIT - Reinstalling had no effect, I am still rubberbanding through the matches. The game has gone from running totally fine to being completely unplayable.

All of those and PGI does not even recognise there is a problem ( yes, support ticket sent)
