Kill the RT and you get rid of all the direct fire weapons ????? Who would design a mech that way? I don't see how it's possible for the designers in lore to make such a terrible design flaw and for the higher powers that be at PGI to think it's a good idea to keep it that way.

If this game wasn't there already, it is now....PAY TO WIN.

I'm going to name all my highlanders half-a-mech.

Firstly, almost all of the Hero mechs have a slightly nicer slot layout than the regular ones...

...and secondly, PGI did not design the original variants.

Lastly, the "Heavy Metal" hero is good, but not so good that I feel like declaring them a "win button" and not good enough to get me to fork over RL dollars for one. (Nor am I going to declare the regular Highlanders as "garbage" just because they aren't Heavy metal.)

Funny people been saying e same thing about the heavy metal. Kill the left torso and all it has left is a ballistic arm.

Yeah, and it really sucks how they are forcing us to all buy the Highlanders, whether we like it or...

...oh, yeah, we DON'T HAVE TO BUY IT!

I'm really enjoying the Highlanders. The Heavy Metal with Double Basic is awesome for brawling now, and the other variants (732 with 3xPPC and 1 Gauss or 733C with 2xUAC5s [or AC20], PPC and 2xSRM6). There is actually a pretty good hardpoint spread on the variants, I'm surprised you're this disappointed.

Not even close to the same thing not to mention that there is a symmetrical hunchback option. Every highlander has nothing but missiles on it's left side.

My 'Hero' 4G that I paid for would like to have multiple missile hard points on it's left side instead of one energy slot.

The Highlander variants and load outs were discussed for months before they came out. Why is this a surprise for you?

I think all variants are well balanced, each of them has a strong point:

732: can do 3 PPC and 1Gauss
733: one more missile slot
733C: able to mount an AC20
733P: one more energy slot, 4 PPC
HM: one more JJ, direct fire weps on both sides

none of them is clearly better

It should also be noted that PGI did not build the Hero Mech as well. It is a canon loadout, too.

So you're saying the Highlander has a weapon arrangement that you don't like so it's pay to win. ;)

The Heavy Metal fyi concentrates most of its firepower in the LT/LA so how does it not suffer from the same problem? Further SRMs are decidedly direct fire weapons and while not operating at the levels they had been before are still very much viable.

The 3PPC gauss combo may have some merit.. We'll see how it runs.

If your entire RT has been knocked out, I think you have bigger things to worry about than no more direct fire weapons....

Desperate faction mechanics trying to shoehorn and cobble together battlemechs? ;)

Heavy Metal isn't cannon.. there really isn't any mention on exactly what varient of highlander Rhonda piloted.. I would wager it was a 733 though, as the 732 nearly went extinct after the second succession war.

Really sad when a assualt class mech cant even dual weild balistics. Highlander is like a mini atlas with jumpjets. Cant make a assualt class with dual ac/20 or even dual guass. Starting to think this game is getting worse and not better. Plus the hardpoints seem lacking on any assualt. It is like PGI doesnt want us to play assualt class mechs. IMO. The game is starting to get boring and going backwards with every patch. Havent played for a week and I rather have the player made Highlander that can weild dual guass.

Yeah I totally agree. You never see anyone playing assault mechs. Not like every single drop has Stalkers, Atlases, and Heavy Metals.

I was unaware that once you built a mech, it plays itself in matches. Last I checked, player skill was involved.

I bet you ask what the best mech/loadout is "ftw" during matches too.

I must agree that so far the Heavy Metal is still the best variant.

Untill they un-nerf SRMs that is....
