After 2 and 1/2 rounds my keyboard on my laptop was too hot to touch and my stickers melted off. I played 10-15 rounds plus palyed around in the mechlab each night with no heat issues before this patch. It's not heating up on other games like BF3 and Planetside 2. I'm afraid to even turn on the game to mess around in the mechlab.

id check to see if any other high load game causes this. If it doesnt you might try a benchmark or something to see where the error might lie (note if your computer is eating it or your out a fan then a benchmark would be a bad idea)

Software wont be the root cause for hardware overheating.

If ur laptop is overheating its likely 1 of 2 things.
1) The laptop is not designed for gaming or extended high load use.
2) There is a fault with the cooling.

My advice would be to take it apart (just the bottom so u have access to the heatsink and fan) and clean up any dust, make sure the heatsink isnt loose.

If its a cheap laptop however, its likely just not built to run at such high loads. Remember cheap laptops r not menat for gaming, Overheating is one of the outcomes of trying to push a non gaming laptop that hard. Why is it happen now and not in the past ? ..its likely due to the recent patch, it may have pushed the CPU and GPU in ur laptop to run just that little harder to the point were it overheats becousei t cant run that high a load for long periods.

Keeping a computer cool is pretty easy, even when under high load.

1: Keep it clean
2: Make sure cooler air can get in, and that warmer air is expelled out.
3: Keep air obstructions out of the way.

It applies to both desktop and laptop. Clean is important, some laptops offer fan control while others do not, if yours does I recomend setting the fans to a higher setting, another posability is that the thermal interface is getting dry which can result in sub optimal performance.

Examples

You will note, all of the wires are tucked out the way, and there is nothing blocking the air from moving though the case. This is key to obtaining ideal temperatures.

Laptop's are bad for gaming as their not heat efficient.

It's like sticking 9 medium lasers on a HBK-9P and always firing all nine and expecting it to run cool. '(o.o)'

Use a cooling pad or change to something meant for gaming (no, really) like a real PC.

I play mechwarrior online on a laptop and have no heating issues whats so ever.
And this thing isn't even running a monster fan or multiple fans, its just one average size fan with a single side exhaust to it.

If you're having heat issues with your laptop, it just means it needs to be cleaned. What most people don't seem to get, is that you should be cleaning your laptop fans at least once every 2 months. Laptop fans get clogged up much MUCH quicker then desktops so they require more maintenance.

The average person/gamer does not know this. So they usually never bother cleaning there fan for like a year and then they have to get there laptops opened so you can take out the giant ******** demonic dust demon which has latched on to pretty much any nook and cranny you can think of.

Source: I've cleaned plenty of laptops and know how to maintain them.

Caution: Do NOT buy USB powered cooling mats. They're terrible, and a complete waste of power/money. And they always end up doing more harm then good. And they always end up sounding like a jet taking off.

Also, it must be noted. That simply giving the bottom section of the laptop more air to breath will do WONDERS. You can actually find laptop stands for very cheap that do exactly this which I actually recommend more then laptop cooling pad. Less cables and no noise.

Sorry, not trying to **** on you or anything yashmack. But too many people buy cooling mats as a band-aid solution, instead of addressing the actual problem.

In theory, your laptop should never have heat issues if you maintain it properly. This is only not the case if your laptop was designed poorly.
