I ran the highlander and got poptarted until I gave in and ran a poptart to counter (not very well, I'm crap with poptarts.) So I'm hoping that instead of making an omgnerfppcsnow thread, if people post their non-poptart highlander builds here, other people won't feel the need to fight fire with fire.

I've been playing around with the 733

4 SRM 6 + Artemis (4 tons of ammo)
2 LL
STD 300
And of course DHS

I've done pretty well with this one. 400+ dmg most of the time

I'm also going to set it up with

2LL
3SRM 6 + Artemis (3 tons of ammo)
1 LB 10X (2 tons of ammo)
STD 270

Haven't run it with the LBX yet but I think it should do alright.

Non poptart HGN is tricky, because that's what the chassis really lends itself to. IMO best bet is to build on that variant with 4xSRM6.

i'm not sure about using it without jump jets. i still see the atlas as the best no jump jet assault mech.

If you're running 4 SRM6, get Artemis. With the SRM nerf, you really need to tighten up the spread or you just don't do enough concentrated damage. ASRM6's are still quite lethal though.

AC20, Large Lasers, SRM's. Basically an atlas with jump turning. Works great.

Yeah, if you're not going to pack jump jets, there's no reason not to run an Atlas. An extra 10 tons, ECM option, similar (often largely identical) hardpoints.

currently my heavy metal is running
255xl (45.9kph) 2 lrm 15s. 3 or 4 ammo. lbx with 4 or 3 ammo
3 medium pulse lasers. keept the jets. 496 armor. ams 1ammo beagle.
1.18 heat, 2 external heatsinks

gunna get the 733c eventually, switch this kinda config to that and start experamenting with a 330xl

against the grain kinda build. it requires me to stay alive a long time to shine and although yes i find that difficult, the few times it works out tho, i find it rewarding.

Nonsense. The HGN is way to big to do any proper poptarding. It's just easy mode target practice.

First thing i did is removing that silly jumpjet crap on my 732. Std 300, Gauss, 3 srm6+art, 3 Medlas.
Works just fine.

not to be mean but that sounds quite bad.

Poptarts in general tend to be easy targets. Big object following easy to predict path. I tend to use my JJs for poking my head over hills I really don't want to walk over, getting the high ground quickly, and MAYBE using them to line up a good AC10 shot in my 3D.

The only real "poptarting" I do, is to land on a building/hill/terrain to shoot the tartings that do the poppin in the air to shoot people thing.

i.e.

I kill people.

733c

AC/20
2x SRM4
2x Large Laser

I upgraded the engine and left one JJ in the torso because their limited use (no lateral control = ****) doesn't justify the weight IMO. It's basically a 90 ton, bunny hopping Atlas, but I'm enjoying it a lot more than the stock version.

nope it goes to 330 as of todays patch "heavy metal" can do 330 the other variants prolly max at 325. it came with a 275xl but i have that in my trebuchet right now and downgraded to the 255 for a few more tons. i got used to it being slow. so thats why im going to switch this modd over to the 733c cause its slower than the heavy metal max so might as well give that chassis the speed. i plan to have prolly 3 highlanders.

325 XL
2xERPPC
2xSRM4
2xSRM6
BAP
AMS
19 DHS
2xJJ
and... an MG!

Fill the rest with ammo and armour. I've got 1 damn critical slot left with nothing to stick in it.
Plays pretty well so far, record damage ~900. Average around 400.

you can do other things with jump jets rather than just ridge snipe.

but if you really hate the jump jets Id still go for a max alpha build.

gauss\ppcs\AC\20s

really on any mech....

2 LL
1 AC20
3 SRM6
1 JJ (to bridge gaps, assist a turn and so on)
XL 325

Like a mini-Atlas DDC. Works very well untill you eat the 16 ERPPCs coming at your face.

Why does every mech with JJ require a poptart setup and playstyle? Nobody is forcing you to do that.
I use my JJ mainly for maneuvering and positioning.

Currently running a 733P with 2ML, 1SRM6, 2LRM10 and 2PPC.
I've yet to find a good setup for the 732 that works for me.

Man, i was so hyped about the highlander...
after buying the 732 i'm really sad i have to say i simply don't like it (so far).

Right now i'm using the 732 with:
Gauss
2x PPC
2x Srm 6

Having all his energy hardpoints in the torso seriously gimps this mech, especially on maps with higher hills like alpine.
Once a enemy mech is a little bit above you, you can basically only hit him with the gauss without jumping.

Compared to my several atlas it feels sluggish and vulnerable. I REALLY hope i can make something out of this mech that i like, because i want to love it. Waited for it so long.
