I write this to bring a sad and shocking story to your attention:

the fate of countless medium Mechs, sitting alone, all by themselves, untended and unloved in some dark, cold corners of a mechbay. They don't understand why nobody loves them anymore. Their medium lasers point at the floor, their cute little missile launchers empty and rusting. Is it their fault that they get outrun by their heavier brothers? Outgunned? Out-armoured? No. They've tried so hard! But as much as they struggle with their tiny legs, they can't outrun a massive PPC Alpha strike. Even their smaller brothers laugh at them.

Their fate is cruel and undeserved.

But YOU can help! Adopt a Medium now! Show them some love, show them they can still be useful!

I am a Medium pilot.

Cn9-A Zombie and HBK -4SP is what I use the most. Actually I think are the most reliable configuration for Mediums.

The only chance for Meds to survive on the battlefield is their speed. CN9 should never be slower than 92kph, with its best at 98kph. HBK has to be 92kph.

Doesn t matter what weapon config you have, if you are slower than that on Medium, you are dead meet. Try to believe.

Other thing is Meds need to strongly rely on the rest of Assaults on team. They should be their shadow, always.

Focus fire on your Assault's targets flanking them and hitting them in the back while the Assault keep them busy in the front. If your Assaults on your team suck, you are dead.

Today Medium means "Never fight in the front, always flank and engage a busy target from the rear". If you are able to follow that, you can still be very useful on the battlefield.

If your Team sucks, you are dead, but that is probably true whatever you are piloting.

in Inner Sphere medium mech adopts YOU!

i still bring out my 4sp regularly as well as the trebby brothers 3C and 7K. that's 3 of the four mechs i usually play (4th is my jager S though i may have to pick up the other two to unlock the elite stuff soon). i still get shot at more than the assaults i find- probably because they figure "kill the annoying medium first then we can focus on the assault without a distraction." but yeah the more the enemy focuses on the assault the better i usually do.

other day in Frozen i decided to adopt an atlas that dared to try to flank along the epsilon line breaking the sacred rule of ridge warfare and smushed into a pile of enemy long range heavies and assaults near kappa. think we killed two or three (atlas had a nice "PULL!" kill on a leaping cat- headshot i think- went from healthy to dead by the time it landed) before dying but while the five of them were busy with us the rest of the team actually came over the top to take advantage of the 6 on 3 at the ridge and closed the distance while they were busy protecting their long range shooters from us and we ended up winning.

the only caveat i'd add to Batwing's post is that when you do try to flank your adopted assault's target and find 3 more not being shot at enemy mechs at the top end of your flank...try the opposite flank, if you live long enough to get there that is. ;)

I foster a Medium now and again, usually a 4SP or any Centurion. The Treb-K is a nice ride also.

I've been running my CN9s since closed beta; it's a rare day when they're all left in the MechBay.

Currently, I'm having lots of fun with a Jack-of-all-Trades CN9-A: UAC/5, 2xML, 2xSSRM-2, 1xALRM-10.
Hit them at range with UAC/5 and/or ALRMs, and when they get into range, swap the ALRMs for Streaks and MLs.

Works a charm, and is more fun to play than the bog-standard triple-SRM6 brawler CN9-A. It actually feels like it's useful in all situations and not just in brawling range.

A medium pilot. Proud and deadly...

... just a bit overweight with my Dragon.

Don't make a mistake, it is a medium mech, just ate too much and got that big belly in front with additional 5 tons. ;)

And also, lights! All of those will need adoption too, but most of them are actually ready for either scrap or adoption.

No its not...

As for mediums I find myself gradually running mediums more and more. I started off Heavy, but I like the extra mobility that being a medium brings.

I've neglected mediums since closed beta, in my hands they really are at a disadvantage compared to all other weight classes. Once I mastered the trebuchet I immediately parked it. The closest I'll get to a medium is my trusty cicada 3M. Which as we all know, is as much a medium as a dragon is...
