No apology necessary. What book is that out of?

Ok That can explain why I didn't know this! I dropped out of TT shortly after TW was published. SO I didn't have to read the whole book forward and back! Thank you!

I came in during 2nd edition but most of my playing was during citytech era.

:)
No group I ever played in used those rules!

Again thank you for the correction.

It'd be neat if they did away with weapon-type hardpoints and instead put in weight-crit softpoints, where you could go over/under on both weight and crit but at certain penalties (like reduced torso and arm twist, slower acceleration/deceleration, longer convergence* time), but that's a pipe dream.

*if it ever returns to some semblance of balance as the standard.

NP. Most of the people I played with never used it either, as it got in the way of stompy robot killing time! However, when you have a computer figuring everything out for you, it'd take milliseconds to do all the work.

People seem to have a problem grasping the concept of Hardpoint sizes.

1 PPC would not equal 2 energy hardpoints. Thats stupid.

Here is an example of Hardpoint Sizes.

You have a CN9-AL. In the right arm you have 2 Energy Hardpoints.
One of the Hardpoints is a Large Energy Hardpoint. It can outfit any kind of energy weapon. PPC, LL, ER LL/PPC, ML, SL . etc

The other is a Small Hardpoint, therefore you can only mount a small laser or small pulse laser. Nothing bigger.

Funny part is I read and incorporated a lot of the stuff just before and just after those rules!

And 6 ppc stalkers are fine? LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

I don't have a problem with any mech boating (even 6 ppc stalkers). What bugs me is the lack of penalty for alpha striking. The same amount of heat is generated by a weapon whether it's fired alone or solo. Seems like if extra heat generated exponentially per weapon alpha striked it would make it harder to converge weapons on a single point as well as give pilots more decisions on how to conduct routine combat while still using Alpha Strikes for more specialized purpose.

I also feel the hard points isn't as much an issue as the "mass" of the section. A Jenner doesn't look like it should have 10 slots which is the same as a K2. Seems like a Jenner should have 5-6 max.

Common sense seems like it could fix some issues, but I have NO IDEA on any lore or TT rules!

Game is still fun as hell. Great read in this thread. Thanks.

Finished the thread. Pfew. We should just incorporate a teamspeak channel where we can talk one on one with devs. You have two minutes to discuss and next persons up lol.

But then we would be able to detect sarcasm and that would mess up everything!

Who knows. It might help, but it would probably give us the same problem in a more acute sense.

Most likeley, it would just obsolete mechs, and there would be one clear cut build that is better than the rest. Not that what we have now is that much better, but at least there are a few builds that work, instead of just one chassis that has the optimal hardpoints.

Having better weapon balance is the real answer though. If everything works and is worth it's tonnage then you will have variety on the battlefield.
