Hello all!
I was hoping for a little help and upon a quick search of our forums, found no results so I'm reaching out.
--Basic Rig info:
OS: Windows 8 x64
Proc: i7-3820 @3.60
RAM: 32 GB
GPU : GF GTX 680
--Standard MWO Video Settings:
Everything maxed
--Issues:
At random times with no foreseeable trigger the game will lock. No continued audio nor any other functionalities.
*extended problem: with MWO and Win8 ... mwo wont allow my task manager to show on top of the failing program. Sooo I cant force close it.
Other attempted fixes that would not work:
-Alt-Tab out and back in (results in a pure black screen from this forward)
-Alt-F4 (nothing happens. Even when making certain to try this first)
-Task Mngr will not lay on top of failing MWO to close
-right-click -> Close. You can click but nothing happens.
-Updated Drivers to most current - no affect.
-Lowered/turned off various settings to no avail.
Only "fix" is to completely reboot the PC and relaunch. This is tiresome.
---I can look passed Frozen City not loading building textures. I can even get passed the different UI loading fails leading to no maps. No friend/foe id's or even the worst which I call Hardcore mode: Having absolutely no Heads up what so ever. (I'd play like this as a toggle enabled option for emersion).
I'm about to try it in windows mode to see if this will allow me to use Task Mngr when/if it crashes but this isn't a real fix.
Any suggestions?

The lockups are a problem that's been introduced since last two patches (it occasionally did before, but not to the extent it does now). The task manager bug, however, is purely Windows 8, but is able to be worked around.
First, CTRL+ATL+DEL and bring up the task manager. Doing so will also give you access to your taskbar. Next, Alt-Tab to make sure you actually have the task manager selected. Then, just hover the mouse over the taskbar icon for the task manager, and Aero peek will make it appear in front of MWO; you can now see it. Keeping the mouse there, use the arrow keys to move down and select MWO.exe, end it with delete, and you're golden.
Also, keep in mind that you can simply log out, rather than doing a reboot, if worse comes to worst.
