I know it's a broken-record thread but... wow.

Several matches last night had 4-5 Highlanders per team. In one match, my team had six. I know that as flavour of the week there are a lot of people trying them out and skilling them up simultaneously but... oh my. Everything was popping up and shooting down and... I kinda felt like a dog out in its first snowfall. Can't focus... on one... they keep... popping.

It got sadder after I died and I watched from a team-mates cockpit. Jump. Shoot! Overheat. Fall. Wait. Start up. Jump! Shoot! Overheat. Fall. I was awestruck at how un-fun that looked. Different strokes, I guess.

There are other HGNs out there, that don't limit themself to be a one trick pony. Mine for example. ;)

What you're seeing is the result of an unbalanced metagame being introduced and a highly-anticipated chassis hitting the shelf at the same time.

PGI is going to take months to untangle the rat's nest of bad balance they've created.

The Highlander had high expectations and it performs. It has its flaws, but it is still an amazing mech.

While the poptarting is fun (and believe me, I Elited the 733P with 4 ERPPC's right out of the gate), my favourite build right now is all brawler. I use the 733C with 2 UAC5, 2 LPL and 2 SRM4. The UAC's provide some range but the optimal range is 270m. The jump jets help to sneak up on other bad boys and get in some extra hits.

I expect after a month or two, you'll see people complaining about all of the Orions on the battlefield or all of the other mechs. It's the flavor of the month and people want to level them quickly. It happens.

Hush, do not talk about the 75 ton mech. Let me enjoy my highlander toy first!

New mech out and it's everywhere?

What a surprising turn of events.

New Mech (and one of the most popular designs in Battletech, to boot) and you see a lot of them?

Shocking. I bought a few. Surprised myself by liking them. I don't alpha and overheat all the time. I do, however use JJ to crest obstacles and land 2 ER PPC and 3 SRM6 into peoples faces.

THAT is great fun.

Not to mention the tourney this weekend.

Don't want to drive a highlander? Build a highlander killer... Perfect weekend for that...

I play light mechs lately for this reason. Helps break up the battlefield so it's not purely a game of 'my assaults try to out poptart your assaults' and makes the game more interesting. There are extremely few lights out there making this happen right now though.

I've only seen a handful of them honestly. Maybe I've seen 5 in 10+ games yesterday. Maybe I'm lucky

We didn't ask them to put in a broken ECM system and nerf viable indirect counters to the ground....

Implying that PGI listens to us? That's cute. They've specifically said that they do not consider these forums representative of the community.

Also, "the community" is not some single entity, stop trying to represent it as such. "The community" hasn't unanimously come together on a single issue.

I noticed this a lot. Quite entertaining. I decided to just start punishing it ruthlessly running an ECM scout and base capping once the shooting match started. It turns out that having the entire team run 45-55kph mechs with no heat efficiency is a terrible idea.

...and the more you post the less they listen.

Which is ok the less they listen the less I spend.

I doubt it with Orions... they aren't easy mechs to play. Sure people will try them when introduced... but you gotta love the mech itself to really want to play it long term.
