I tried several over the years in playing mech warrior...I kept coming back to the Microsoft Sidewinder and Force Feedback Joysticks... I think the digital controls are smoother and feel better in your hand.
The only drawback is after mechwarrior 4 they discontinued them..
I still have mine.. both a force feedback and a sidwinder in the boxes.. patiently waiting to be taken out again to make a salavge yard out of the competition... :P

I hope they will be supported....

Anyone have a preference?

Take a look at the CH Products lineup. Rock-solid reliability, very accurate, great warranty. Downside: They do not twist, so turning must be done with the keyboard or foot pedals. My first joystick was a CH Flightstick Pro, and as far as I know it's still working fine. 10+ years of hard gaming. The Saitek and Logitech sticks I've had? All died.

The cost can put some people off, but comparing to the price of replacing lower quality sticks over and over, the CH becomes cheaper.

My current setup is a Fighterstick + Pro Pedals.

[edit] The MS FFB Sidewinders are epic. Not really my bag, but still the best at what they do. The lack of support isn't the fault of game designers however, rather the fault of Microsoft. To that end, I don't think PGI could support those great old sticks even if they wanted to.

I just picked up a HOTAS system, specifically for MWO. After looking over a lot of reviews, and not wanting to spend too much money (I also dropped $500 on CPU / MB / RAM upgrade) I went with this:

It is only about $50 online, and has a solid feel and lots of buttons. I obviously haven't been able to try it in MWO yet, but I have been practicing with it in MW4 and MS Flight.

I love my HOTAS Warthog and Saitek Pro-Flight Combat pedals, they go well with my flightseat gaming chair. Now I only need the game I got them for to let me play. ...PENDING....

I'll never trust Thrustmaster again. Can they put out a good product? Certainly. Can they put out a garbage product? You betcha. Will getting support be a hassle? Yep.

I used a Saitek X36 set back in the MW4 days that was a great system, I would say that it was my favorite. But it got old, and worn out after 6 years or so. I replaced it with an X52 thinking it was simply an updated model. But I did not like the build quality of spring strength. I also hate that twisty handle thing. I bought a Logitech G940 for MWO. I hope it ends up serving me as well as the X36.

I picked up a Logitech Freedom 2.4 Ghz wireless Joystick quite a few years ago when I rediscovered my love for M4 Mercs.

Still works great.

I haven't used that many recently, but I'm currently using a Cyborg F.L.Y. 5 and love it.

Ive had it better than a year without any issue yet

Beware if you do have an issue inside of warranty. A lot of folks that had issues with their Warthog setups (which goes for between four and five hundred dollars) had to take VIDEO of the problem before Thrustmaster would even talk to them. And let's not forget the whole Cougar debacle.

If yours works, knock on wood that it'll keep working. The contactless halls in the 16000 are nice - rarely do you see hall sensors in a joystick at that price point, even lower quality ones. Sure, the high-end pots work just as well as hall sensors, but there are inherent advantages to the contactless system. Add to that the good ergonomics the 16000 has, and it's a recipe for a solid stick if it doesn't have issues.

Well, if this topic has taught me anything, it's that just about any joystick will do. You all have different favorites. :)
When anything will do, I try to go for whatever is least expensive...or what I already have.

Thanks for the help!

Had a MS Precision Pro that died years ago, replaced it with a Saitek X52 that served me well on numerous games, including MW4.
Looking to get X52 Pro, to replace it, since Amazon has it for $136.
Artemis looks cool, if it is priced reasonably and functions well I might get it instead.
