I'm starting over on this account.

A moment ago I wrapped up my 25 matches to grind my Cadet bonuses on the other one.

We lost ALL 25!!!

I admit I'm a below average player because I'm new, but still, I'm only 1/8 of the team and I do damage, assists and spotting.

This totally sucks, and if I wasn't such a huge fan of the Battletech genre, or if I knew a better game, I'd SOOOO be outta here....

Not meaning to QQ, otherwise I wouldn't be trying again (1-10 so far on this account), but this is just demoralizing.....25 losses in a row, 1/10 now and I'm doing my utmost best and following the herd & tactics laid down here by the "pros."

Wow.

If you aren't in an Assault mech with proficiencies unlocked and upgrades purchased, and a cool shot consumable, you really can't compete. I can't, and I've been playing since Closed Beta.

What Mech did you bring? The Gamebalance is at the moment pretty ******, if you dont bring some kind of heavyly armored Alpha-Boat you can go home. Medium Mechs are gimped especially hard.

Given there is no tutorial, new players should play against new players with a maximum
of two vets per team to help out. (It would give you white knights something useful to do too)

Dropping brand new players against premades is brutal to the point of ZERO fun.

Zero fun is is a fantastic way to retain players... ;)

That's a skill issue on your part more than anything I wager. I'm running lights atm, without much issue (even keeping a positive, almost decent KDR in my Raven 2X atm).

OP -- things get better with time and efficiencies. Assaults nor consumables are not necessary to be competitive. You'll learn and your Elo will get you into the right level of matches. Also, remember, this is the Assault competition weekend so they'll be more fatties online than normal, therefore further skewing the learning curve against a new player (not to mention Missiles are awaiting their next balance tweak and Highlanders...an Assault...are the new "shiny" this week as they were just introduced).

I can.

Well anyway new players should start in sandbox - not in meat grinder yet somehow this thought evaded devs minds.

First of all ...Welcome to MWO

Second....If you have just done your first 25 matches you are at the base line ELO also being that this is a team game it most likely was not you it was a lack of group tactics and teamwork that lost those matches.

Third.....People on this forum are Jaded a$$&@!%$ so when you see them saying things like "If you don't have X" you are doing it wrong or can't have fun just ignore them.

Here is what you need to know about MWO...

1. It is a competitive team based game that is not yet complete (Or in beta)
2.Imbalances will happen right up until launch
3. t for all chat y for team chat u to chat with your lance (The 3 other guys in the top left hand of your screen) Learn to use them when you can. Communicate enemy locations, offer suggestions on what the team might do, take command if you like. If you are wrong then you learn if you are right then you learn and win.
4.Even better find one of the many public Teamspeak servers and get on voice chat with other people, see if grouping up helps you.
5.Join a unit if you like. Gives you a constant group of people to play with witch will help you have more fun as well.
6. Smurfy mechlab http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/...This is a way for you to figure out what you want to put on your mech before having to do it in the in game mech lab.
7. IF you are looking for builds you can go to Mechspecs.com where people post their builds up and discuss them among other things.

Mwo is a rough game to get into. I've played video games since 1981...Not to mean I am any gifted player or anything.

I started here in November. When I finally learned about stats on the forums , my KDR was .10. I believe at that time I had only purchased a com-2d and a 4-sp.

Over many months and Mechs, my kdr has steadily risen.

It's a long way up, so don't forget to have fun along the way.

Also, don't be afraid to try differnt Mechs. I ended up leveling a LOT of different mechs before I found that I am apparently best suited to piloting a Trebuchet. On the way to that discovery, I also discovered that I'm terrible with Atlases, Catapults, Cataphracts, Centurions, and Ravens, but for some reason I do pretty good with the Treb.

Hang in there dude. It was a tough start for all of us.

You don't need an assault mech or coolant or any of that other crap people whine about. I do recommend that you choose a fast mech to start out with because speed is life in this game. You'll be harder to hit, you'll live longer, and if you're the last man standing you can still cap bases.

For now, don't worry about K/D or W/L ratios. Just try to have fun, support your teammates, and pi$$ off the enemy in any way you can.

Mainly, find something you like to drive as mentioned up thread, to me at least, that goes way farther than winning alone.

25 though....i commend you for your patience, I would have hulked out at 15 :-D
