and in this case the forums are exactly correct. Fortunately its a F2P game, so the only thing you lose in playing it is time, thank god for that.

You're probably better off waiting for a few months to see if the situation straightens out some, there have been times during some of the patches that the game has been at a rather enjoyable state and I expect it to continue to fluctuate until the end of Beta, but you ought to give the game a try sometime with some experienced players to help you out.
(PS: apologies for any improper grammar or general lack of making sense, I should've gone to sleep hours ago)

the mere fact that i'm here chillin' on the forums, replying to this thread, should be some kind of... clue, that it's not like ROCK ON AWESOME OMG I CAN'T WAIT TO LOG ON AND PILOT A MECH BONZAIIIIIIIIIiiiiieeeeee~~
the good~
for me the gameplay is fun. and you do feel the improvements that come with leveling a mech up. also the timeline to level a mech up feels about right.
the graphics are purdy, could be more amazing i suppose but what do i know. i have a dated pc yet i run almost max graphics and the game still looks nice and plays well.*
the most fun is when my RL buddies log on and we use ventrilo, but even then, the game is merely the pretext for our hanging out in the virtual world, like all the games before and after MWO. know what i mean?
the bad~
there are like 5 maps and a gazillion mechs that are a little different. the lack of maps issue is huge to me. like i mentioned in one of my first posts, i can see the light at the end of the tunnel on this game, and i've never actually felt that way about a video game.
also, the hud and minimap bugs, especially since these last couple patches, are super frequent. that's why i added the "*" to "plays well" because it plays well, when you're not bugged... i've got up and walked away more than a few nights, with this game. anytime i get the hud bugs or CTD's 3x in a row i just walk away. it's really frustrating especially cuz i have such little time to play games.
having said all that, i'd rather play MWO than solitaire!

The skill system is part of the cancer that PGI gave us for this game.
Its a mech simulator in which someone has fairy dragon magic skills that make his mech go 10% faster or fire faster.

Not every game blocks the license on Battle Tech...

You go sniper, or you go home. Poptart and ridge. Oh, you've spent the past year basing your mechs around missiles and how they've worked since inception? Well, that's too bad.

That POS minimap on the console...EVEN WHEN IT WORKS...which isn't often enough to pay any attention to it...is simply WORTHLESS.
You see some stupid triangles in blue...which you cannot scroll through and see the status of your fellow teammates...because PGI hasn't implemented this critical function..which is a standard in every other FPS I have ever played including ALL MW Titles.
You cannot see squat re: the red triangles which are supposed to be the enemy mechs...because of ECM...and the reality that the POS radar doesn't work relative to showing NON ecm protected mechs....anyway.
THen there is the JOKE of using the fricking tab key to have to scroll through enemy mechs on your map...rather than having the option of targeting said mech in the reticle and having the stupid pathetic sensor suite...actually lock and portray the relevant data on that enemy mech selected.
AND even when you have a enemy mech selected...you have no distance to target data shown in the mech status box in the right hand side of the screen....NOPE...you fricking gotta POINT your fricking mech towards that enemy mech to read the distance to target...
AND ON AND ON AND ON AND ON...!!!!!!!
Children...time to stop...take a deep breath...and REMEMBER...
Remember MW3...and MW4....the HUD and Sensor suite were just about perfect...they were so fricking seamless that you could get your information...JUST LIKE A REAL PILOT...and use that sensor suite information to PLAY THE FRICKING GAME...
Right now ...all this game has is on big fricking IOU...Since the sensor suite is a bugged out featurless POS...you do not use it for anything...its ALL LOS...Visual direct fire sniping manure fests...
This is one of the primary reasons nobody but a serious lagged out fool plays anything but direct fire weapons...
Indirect fire like LRM..that dual dance between the spotting light NARC mech and the LRM mech...that is supposed to be so fricking devistating...is simply absent in this game.. Yes they go through the motions..... and they have all the correct equipment...but NOTHING is implemented in a even close to the workable manner seen in EVERY SINGLE PAST MW title.
So...
We play line of sigt sniping games using future weapons that deliver lighting...and light....
Using a sensor suite of a WWII jeep...." yes I had to repost, I hate seeing real BT players opinions go down the drain >

Wow, ok before ecm, all you had were boats everywhere destroying everything. Do they have some issues they need to address, hell yea but do you want to go back to a few months ago when you would drop and get spammed by missiles?

actually, when we bought our FOunders packs, we we promised 0-4 special mechs, 3 months premium, in game cash, maybe name in credits and early access to Closed Beta.
All the rest were ideas of a general vision that is still slowly being worked at. We won't know what we have until we see if CW is actually fail or win.

i should have cleared that up better but I didn't write it, there is 3 specific things i want pgi to see one more time, but the part about ECM is not one of them.

I think on this you are incorrect. ECM is broken for some people. I just did a couple of quick calcs based on my stats. In the last 625 games I have played an ECM mech 25 times, mostly in 8vs8, and mostly in a SDR-5D. Over the same period I have had SSRM2 on 304 of my loadouts and LRMs on 165 of them, so more often than not. I do not find these weapon systems unviable, the question would be why can I use these weapons effectively if ECM is broken and why do some people find ECM to be a game breaker?

A **** poor beta right now...not much really works reliabally and the balance is so bad that it is basically a FPS COD clone with mech skins.
Hopefully somewhere in that money milking machine that is PGI...somebody will take some time off and actually fix the beta so that we can have a basic engine that even APPROACHES the reliability and presentation of the 12-15 year old platforms of MW3 and MW4...
Currently....the game is intensely fustrating...the economic system is purposefully designed to drive you nuts...so that you will shortcut and spend hard cash getting even basic functionality IN A BETA....Heck you even have to spend MC bucks to buy more than 4 mech bays...
Nothing...absolutely nothing I see here could last in a real release...because the general gaming market will simply not pay this level of hard cash for what we have now. There are a huge number of much more immersive games like WOW...EVE etc that have much better scope that can be purchased for basically a one time fee of $40 - 60 and a monthly fee lf $10. These games include robust and well implemented PvE, RvR, and PvP modules that keep your busy gaming for years..
This game consists of 4-5 maps...a broken matching system, an exceptionally buggy game engine...that does not play on about 70 percent of the PC market. It is basically an IOU...that PGI is using to milk the hard core mecha communitty (about 400k plaers) out of as much money as possible. There simply is no comparison with past MW efforts...what we are playing here is bits and odd pieces of mecha with acceptable graphics for high end machines.
That said...it is mecha...and as one who has been waiting about 5 years to play mecha againj since they closed the Chromehounds server on XBOX 360..even the buggy pos we have right now is better than nothing...
But there is a HUGE...absolutely HUGE amount of programming effort required to get this game functional and playable....and a HUGE amount of content must be added in order to hope to broaden the appeal of this game to sufficient numbers in the general PC market to make the game viable...(about 2-5 MILLION players). Pursuant to this...the basic economics MUST be changed back to the MW3/MW4/Chromehounds base....small investment by users spread over a huge base....with equipment acquisition based on game progress earning CBills...with a decent rate of earning... The concept of making the game require MC's to purchase stuff..is short sighted greed...that is guaranteed to relegate this effort to marginal irrelevance.
I hope that PGI starts doing things from the bigger perspective....the current milking of the mecha base...sure looks like they do not have much hope for the game's appeal broadening past its current "tin foil hat" obsessive mecha nurd base.
As one who is one of those mecha nurds...I sure hope PGI reevaluates the direction of their programming effort...as what I see makes absolutely NO SENSE whatsoever...
