its called franchising and intellectual property. would it make sense to have a starwars videogame where Darth Vader dresses in pink, pilots a motorcycle in shangai and fights with revolvers?

I would play the HELL out of that!

Something like 6 Clan vs 8 IS.

But who or what decides what the 2 surplus 'Mechs on the IS side are? Will it be two Atlas'? Or two Fleas? Thats something noone seems to think about when offering this suggestion.

they will not make 20+ mechs they spent this year making useless. thats for sure.

They would never make them useless in order to sell you new mechs.

Time to add repair costs back in and make sure piloting a clan mech will always cost you money and never be able to earn any. Done, right?

so youre a supporter of the engine explosion that goes nuclear and damages everything around it? IE the "stackpole explosion"? THAT was in mainly the books until it was shoehorned into the game in Max tech I think it was.

LOL, I'm not sure its actually considered "canon" by the geeky Gods of the MW universe but hey, if the chance of it happening was low enough to make it a real exceptional event when it happens, I guess it would add something to the game, even if its only for people to post stories about how they were witness to it and how it changed their enjoyment of the game that night... Memories you know... Of course, if it was going to happen every other game, that wouldn't so much fun... no more fun than serial ninja base caps. (Not that I'm complaining about those or that it ever happened to me or that I need to learn to play better to prevent them...I'm fine either way)

a possibility is that clan players will have less mechs on the field at one time, two stars VS three or four lances gives IS at least numerical superiority, which could potentially match clan tech superiority.

That being said I'm still waiting for the mauler or the wolfhound to pop up as available and the invasion is months off. If clans are OP then I'll just have to step up my game and fight smarter and dirtier.

You guys do forget, that this is not TT. In TT, IS Mechs were pretty much heat balanced, Clan Mechs ran hot. Now transfer this to MWO, where even IS Mechs run insanely hot. Some Stock Clan Mechs might not even be able to alpha once without shutdown/destruction. The 1.4 DHS ratio will also apply to Clan Mechs. Lets see how much superiority remains.

No, Clan DHS are different from IS DHS, so there is no reason to assume that they will behave the same, at the very least Clan DHS will only take 2 crits compared to IS DHS taking 3.

Also, I believe the standard matchmaking when mixing Clan and IS is to do 1 Star of Clanners vs 1 Company of IS mechs, either that or matching using the BV system which is very different from tonnage based matching. Either of those two options will keep IS mechs viable.

Clans won't be OP, because we're not gonna have them until a year after this game goes gold.

The timeline for updated IS weapons isn't solid. PGI has said they will ignore the cannon timeline whenever they feel like it.

Basically they do whatever they want when they feel like it.

Everything is just a position at a given moment in time.

Well, there's some kind of achievement system going to be coming into place. Maybe you have to trash X numbers of clan mechs or components before being able to purchase and mount them. Then another money sink to make your IS chassis able to accept them. Kind of like wiring a 115 house for 220. Who knows, but with the ELO matchmaking, there may already be a solution.

Or they could pull another pilot skill tree out and make it horrible to get into, like having to have ALL your pilot skills before being able to purchase them.

At which point your skills should be at the point where you could clobber just about anybody with a COM-1B.
