I would 2nd you questioning the Devs for a King of the Hill or Cap the flag mode ... but ASSAULT is good as it is !

So sadly I have to answer with NO, although I would support you for other modes with a SINGLE FLAG, or no flag at all, which you forgot to add in your Voute ...

An even better idea would be to just add the old MW4 game modes such as Attrition and Team Destruction... I`m personally hoping they implement solo Attrition with re-spawns at some point, even though I doubt it will happen anytime soon.

Assault refers to what you do to the base. The maps, sizes and mechs all provide for a variety of offense/defense. Most of which are difficult to pull off with a team that is working poorly together, true.

But there is no logical argument against the base-cap mechanic in assault. All you can present is an opinion that you don't find it fun, however, there are no premises to support that conclusion that will convince anyone who doesn't agree with you.

In high Elo, using some teamwork, capping is like winning by submission in the MMA, you do it when given the opportunity. You don't stop and ask yourself, "Is this how I want to win? Knock outs are so much more fun and rewarding!" The fact is that capping nets you a win and capping is defensible and fair. It adds a dimension to assault, gives meaning to the terrain.


You will think it's not fun and we'll think that there are plenty of ways to successfully stop a base cap if you're not trying to play solo.

But in my opinion, if you don't like base capping in assault, direct your whining in a productive dimension by beginning to make a well reasoned case for a team death match mode.

Because in the meantime, you're wasting your time trying to treat an opinion like a fact.

Wait a moment! Scouts?! Aren't they only legends? You mean the fast little guys who can rush out and gather information for the team? The only light mechs I see are loaded with weapons and hide behind everyone else to play sniper or they are members of the "little guys suicide squad" where they run right into the enemy and get smashed in seconds.

No because this would make camping in a choke point a viable tactic. As is if a team is camping a strong position you can just bypass them and cap.

Ok everyone stays in base on alpine peaks or tourmaline, except for a couple of lights, from each team who run off and 'scout' the enemy base see its heavily defended and bug out to stop being massacred.

tell me where is the fun in being a heavy that stays at base on the chance that a capwarrior will make a run for base to score 25k Cbills and 325 xp

Thank goodness PGI doesn't have an "Abuse of Game Mechanics" policy like some other gaming companies. Trolling is one thing, but trolling a sanctioned game event is quite another. No, I'm not participating in the Assault tourney, so it's not a sour grapes thing. It's the attitude that its ok to abuse cap mechanics at the expense of the gameplay of others. A very prevalent attitude, it seems, so there's no use arguing about it I suppose. Neither side will be swayed.

I never really had that issue much. Usually the cappers are lights that get wrecked later anyways. Although there are a few times where you kill all but one or two and lose to a cap but that is the fault of no one but your team for letting them get to your base and stay uninterrupted. Unless your team is full of Atlas' you should have some fast mechs to run back and defend.

I get that it is very frustrating but honestly both game modes turn into TDM anyways so if they get rid of base cap then guess what? The game gets one step closer to being CoD. Then the next thing people will complain about is how they keep getting sniped and want respawns. If you are looking for TDM or respawns then go play Hawken. I'm not trying to be rude, I have had this happen to me and it sucks, but you just have to work with whatever team the match gives you to be able to attack the enemy and be in a position to defend your base.

There's much more important things the devs can work on that this.

As long as games consist of better than 75% poptarting assault mechs, I'm gonna keep running my raven around behind them and capping. One horribly boring and unfun tactic deserves another.

Teams being able to "miss" each other completely means bad map design, the game mode itself is fine.

Nope. Assault needs to keep the caps just so players can cap the ******* poptart teams. Watching them rage is worth the lower rewards.

Yeah, take out basecap. We need pure poptard-gamemode. Just imagine, no lights, no mediums. Only heavies with PPCs and Gausses (maybe a couple of LRM spammers). Good mode for "thinking person shooter".

If you wanna be a poptart/assaultwarrior, I'm gonna be a capwarrior. Get a non-poptart/assault mech that goes at a reasonable speed or get a teammate to do it for you.

If you don't want to be capped, defend your base. Send scouts out. Find out where the enemy is and go there.

If you get capped it's your own damn fault.

if he is solo pugging, he has little control over his teammates. weight matching still doesn't exist so they could have 3x 3Ls and his team has 1x RVN-4X. Are you suggesting he defend the base by himself?

btw capping is fine. annoying to lose to it but fair.
